30-06 what grain work best for brush??
I have been hunting out of a blind & I'm about 125 yards from a cornfield, that has deer coming out of it,but won't come into the open. When i try to get closer i never see anything (i think cuz it is in a hollow & they can sent me),but where i have my blind it is up above them, but ihave to shoot through a brushy fence line. Any suggestions?? thank you. Ps ionly have a 30-06 & 12 gauge shotgun.

no such thing...no matter what when any bullet or slug of any grain or design hits anything it deflects from its normal route..best advice i can give is maybe clear a few shooting lanes and hope they walk through them...thats about all you can do....
good luck... |

150 grain power point. good mushrooming with those bullets.

RE: 30-06 what grain work best for brush??
My suggestion would be to not shoot through a heavy brush line. Try to cut a small opening through to use as a shooting lane. Some guns work better in the brush than others, but none of them will bust right through without changing directin or tumbling. That said, I use 180 grains in my '06, and just try to get a couple of inch wide opening to give me some margin of error. Good Luck!

I use an '06, and I've got to agree with both Mauser and Bionicrooster, in that if at all possible, do not shoot through brush. Your bullet, no matter whether it's a 55-grain Remington Accelerator or a 220-grain round nose, will be deflected by the brush.
That being said, I use 165-grain Winchester Ballistic Sivertips. |

Just how wide and thick and high is this fence row ???????What is in the fence row?Trees ,bushes or briars?
No matter what, use the 06,with whatever bullet you have, and aim well, things happen! Mounting Man/in PA. |

Do us all and yourself a favor and don't shoot unless you have a clear shot. Its all fun and games until someone gets shot. Also, like has been said before, there is no such thing as a brush busting bullet. It is a myth that has caused more wounded animals than game on the table.

The 220 grain bullet is best for brush, it will knock down more brush than any other. However, for deer I would use the 150, 165 or 180, depending on what shoots best in a given rifle, and I would only shoot through air.
