Call the DNR. I have (and I don't suggest it) took a valve stem remover and deflated their tires so they couldn't leave.

never point a gun at anyone unless you are 150% commited to using it and the reprocusions that will follow. And you never know that the other guy may just be a bit nuttier than you.

I hate poachers...but don't put yourself in a bad position. Call 911, get all the info you can, description, tag numbers and take pictures if you can.

You really do not want to confront people breaking the law that are armed. Also, keep your cool because you can and will be liable for actions as well.

I had a scum poacher take this what was a close to 200" dear on my ground and unfortunately was unable to catch them.

Be safe and careful.

That is absolutly pathetic! I would seriously horse whip some people for cutting the head off of a deer, and leaving his body to rot...Those people should be put in jail for ten years. By the way that is a felony here in GA...like other states Im sure....Breaks the heart........And on YOUR land too.

My wife's uncle watched a guy shoot a deer after dark near his camp. He walked up to the guy carrying hiscell phone and told him hehad a choice, either the poacher could make the call to the game wardenor he would. After some jawing, the uncle called him in as he stood right there. Game warden came out lickity split, case closed. In Washington, they apparently give bonus points towarddraw tags for turning in poachers. Good idea.

I caught a guy in Washington who poached a 2X2 deer 3 point restriction on one side as some of you know so it was illegal (He shot it rightout from under me i was glassing him seeing if he had a third point) (he didnt)I called the game warden the guy tried getting away I beat him out of the woods and blocked the road and I went back into the woods and waited prettty soon the Game wardon came in.

CASE CLOSED! took his gun and his vehicle.

Cut all four valve stems off. They may have one spare but not four. Works especially well on trespassers.

Yes, but a good pair of side dykes or linemans pliers will take care of them faster. A knife won't hurt the ones with the steel lining.[:-]

I don't carry dykes with me while hunting and my knife will hurt all valve stems. I also don't think you could get a linemans pliers on a valve stem as the rim would be in the way. Trust me, a good blade will cut all valve stems.

I've ran into this a couple of times and do the following which seems to have worked....1. Write down the plate number if you come across their vehicle. 2. Call the Game Warden a.s.a.p. or local cops. 3. I always carry a camera with me and take a picture of the vehicle and plates and the surroundings of where the car/truck was parked. That way if they leave before theGW shows up Ihave the proof that they were there. 4. If I run across them in the woods, I simply act friendly....I asked them how their hunts going, where they're from, introduce myself hoping to get their name, etc.and walk away. Get to the place where I'm away from them and call the Game Warden and find their vehicle....There is no sense in getting into a confortation with a person that has a weapon.
This is the smartest and safest response that I've ever seen! :D

If you're going to do anything to the tires, just remove the valve core, this does no property damage. I would recomend not taking the law into your own hands, If you're standing next to some dudes truck with a big grin on your face, four flat tires, and 'waiting' on a GW to show up, *Deleted* gonna get out of hand real quick.

Take pictures, hide in the weeds, whatever it takes, but contact the law first.

Don't want to waste the time it takes to contact the law where I live. Certainly not going to hang around waiting for some fool to come out of the woods either. Believe me, four flat, unfixable tires will do more to deter poaching/trespassing in my area than anything else and with a minimum of effort.

Why not just keepa roll ofcannon fuse and a lighter in your pack? Then you could shove it in thier gas door, light it and take off. Nothing says your not welcomed here like a blown up truck.

Great Post Nick,
I'd like to add something to it if I may.

I found a guy once on my family’s property who appeared to be still hunting or poaching. When I approached him, he was a very kind man. When he realized he wasn't on his friend’s property anymore he was very apologetic and offered his hunting and drivers licenses for me to look at. He explained that a friend of his, which happens to be one of our neighbors gave him permission to hunt his property and was supposed to give him a map and didn't. The landowner was out of town for the holidays when this guy decided to hunt. He'd shot a nice buck and was tracking it. I verified his story by seeing the blood trail. He was so polite that I decided to assist him in tracking the animal on our property. I got my truck and took the buck back to where he was parked and we said our good byes. Afterward I wondered if I'd been tricked and started to think that I was. A few days later my father received a letter in the mail thanking me for my kindness and understanding. The letter also provided my family and I written permission to hunt 300 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The best part is, it also contained a key to a fully furnished cabin for us to use while we were there. I’ve used the Cabin three times now and I can tell you, that this was a good guy. He was just a little geographically challenged when we met.
Now of course most of the time, this is not the case. I know that. But, I think we owe it to people to at least be respectful until we know all the details. If we don’t we are acting just like those cops we’ve all had the pleasure of meeting who mistreat every person they pull over without knowing whether this person is guilty or not. Lets not be those cops.
