I'm thinkin about gettin a Marlin 336W in 30-30. Anybody who hunts deer with the caliber, can you share stories and maybe pics of your deer that you've taken with the 30-30. Doesn't hafta be the marlin specifically, but caliber specific would be great

Thanks
Tom

I started out hunting with a Marlin 30-30 25 years ago and have come back to it. In the last 2 years, I have killed 10 deer with my Marlin 336T, and my youngest son has taken it a few times too. Try the Hornady LeverEvolution ammo too.

Nothing wrong with that gun, dh, probably one of the best gun designs, ever.

I couldn't imagine how many deer have been taken with that model - probably Billions Never owned one but have shot a couple over the years. My father in-law owns one that will probably be burried with him.

Yep, one of my deer rifles is a 336 in 30-30. I posted on another thread today a couple of stories. Mine has a vintage redfield receiver sight that is just nails. This is my heavy cover / heavy weather gun. I've only had the 30-30 for about 10 years, and it has taken some getting used to shooting deer with this caliber, they don't flop for me the way I'd like to, but it kills them.

My maingun is a model 70 short action carbine in 308, with a simmons whitetail classic 1.5 x 5.

I am pretty sure that the "glorified spike" is 5.5+. He is the biggest body deer that we have ever taken off our place in 12 years of hunting it. I had been watching that deer since mid September. He is trophy for his uniqueness.

You have a nice wall hangin conversation piece.

I was really thinking 4.5 but figured you knew exactly how old he was.
I have trail cam pic of his twin brother from last year.We figured he was at least 3.5+.We nick named him "Ole Hunchback" the wanna be.
Never caught him on film again and never got to meet him with my 12g
