Crazy deer story!!

This is an email i got at work today. Some guys from another plant found this crusher this morning!!!!! Here is the story that went with the pics.

On Friday morning, 15 Dec. 06, PEC employees found a 13 point deer laying next to one of our buildings. From the behavior of the deer it was obvious that the deer was seriously injured.
We called the Cedar Falls Police Department who contacted the Humane Society. Both organizations sent personnel to PEC.
The deer recovered enough to limp off into our prairie area. The Humane Officer said the deer was injured very severely and instructed the police office to put the deer down. They were also concerned that the deer would cause problems if it tried to cross Ridgeway Avenue.
The police office did put the deer down as it wondered to within 25 feet of Ridgeway Avenue.
The Humane Society personnel removed the carcass from PEC property.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't dead just to hurt to move.

RE: Crazy deer story!!

Thats odd that a wild deer would just stand there and let one guy hold his antlers like that no matter how bad he's hurt. I'm not calling anyone a liar but are you sure it's not a full body mount that some DNR law enforcement agency isn't using to trap poachers. There are some that are mechanical and the head is able to move back and forth. Seems to me that deer is pretty calm?

he can't be dead in the pic cause ther is no bullet hole from the cop...i doubt that if it is real...big rack with a small body...come on people!

It seems really weird that they're able to stand there and hold onto his rack if he's alive. I wouldn't get within 10 feet of a live buck under any circumstances. I wonder if it had CWD.

I wonder if that deer was still alive in that picture. It looks like all the weight is on the deer's legs in that last picture but who knows? There could have just been something on the guardrail that was holding him up. Rack also looks huge for a deer of that size! Shame it had to go that way...

Assuming this story is upfront.

Come on - you guys can't figure how a deer is able to stand after he's been dead for probably hours:eek:

Man, what a beautiful set of antlers on that deer. I hate it that it had to go like that. It's really sad. From the looks of the pictures he had been starving too. :(

Are they checking for CWD?

RE: Crazy deer story!!

Looking at the eyes it appears to me that the deer is dead. If he was frozen stiff he maybe could stand like that, leaning on the rail while being held by the antlers, but it does look strange.

skidder 12-19-2006 08:52 AM

RE: Crazy deer story!!

it looks frozen, look at the back legs... there folded ontop of each other like it was laying down and the weight dropped them onto each other.... it also looks a little wet/frozen on its front quarter... i'm going with frozen... and very malnurished...:(

AJ52 12-20-2006 01:03 PM

RE: Crazy deer story!!

I think you got it Guys.I might be wrong - but - the ole buck looks to have a severe case of Rigormortis.

If you look at all photo's the legs are always in the same position(locked up).

tschammel 12-20-2006 01:14 PM

RE: Crazy deer story!!

Definitely not frozen! Look at the firs photo the spine is bent down and it actually looks like the deer is pulling a way a bit, it's not like that in the next couple of photos, does a frozen solid deer's spine bend like that.....Nope! If it were frozen do you think the neck would move back and forth from picture to picture......no!. Also it doesn't look like those guys are freezing their a$$e$off at all if it was cold enough to freez a wounded deer. I think some of you should stick to deer huntinginstead of detective work, thats for sure.

I think this deer was hit by a car and is practically brain dead or just not all there at all. I think they are holding on to those antlers sooo tight because the deer is moving around a bit on them. Poor buck.....they should have put down right when they found him.....who knows how long they stood around and took pictures and laughed it off.

AJ52 12-20-2006 02:13 PM

RE: Crazy deer story!!

I think frozen is being misunderstood for rigormortis??

The legs are in the same position in every photo. The deer appears to be leaning against the rail while 2 guys are holding deer in erect postion for pics.Makes sense to me:eek:

That deer looks to have suffered. That rack is so disproportionate to his body its pathetic. That deer better be fake or dead. If that deer was alive at the time of photography, then SHAME on you guys for holding and posing with a suffering deer like some white trash hics. I sure as hell would not let a bunch of co-workers of mine stand around on the back dock, on the clock I"m sure, just to get a picture of some suffering deer. I really hope that he's dead inthat picture. As was said before; where is the bullet hole if he is supposed to be dead?...Or was that cop the worst shot on the force. CWD maybe? He should have been put out of his misery a while ago! That deer would have to be paralyzed or 1/2 out in order to let a bunch of loud humans hold him up by the antlers like that. Especially a bunch of guys like, " lemme hoed em main...I wanna pikchure tooooo". Give me a freakin break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! POOR DEER!!!!!!

RE: Crazy deer story!!

Listen guys and gals. I live and work in Iowa. They found this deer laying out by one of our plants. They said he was weak and couldn't get up. They got him some water and got him up took some pics and called the DNR. If you look at the pics he is standing in many dif positions, and not just his head. When I read down through these replys I couldn't believe the stupidity I was witnessing. I am not going to single anyone out, but It frightens me to think some of you are in the woods(maybe the same woods as me) with GUNS!!!!!!! So for all you Shurlock Holmes Call the Iowa DNR, and ask them if the Deer pics that you saw on the internet of a big buck behind John Deere's PEC plant in Waterlooare real. Here is the officers no. His name isMike. 319-240-5034. This was not a reply to everyone. Some of you had very good comments. The kindI was looking for.In the future I will just keep this stuff to myself.

He isn't a cop, he is a DNR agent. Go to Iowa DNR website. All the officers no.s are there for anyone to call.

I agree in some aspect with your reply CS. The whole posing with an injured or weak animal is kind of ****ty. This is a sister plant across town. I wasn't there. They had done all that they could by making a phone call to the DNR. They couldn't shoot the deer themselves. You can't even carry personal knives on John Deere property. Deer suffer much worse fates every year by idiot hunters who misplace an arrow or shot from a gun, never recovering the animal and leave it to fight through the winter wounded. Any bow hunter here can tell you of the limping crippled deer from the gun season that you see or hear of when back in the woods. It can happen to any hunter, but anyone who has been around hunting for any time at all know that moron who wounds two deer or so every year. Think hard I bet you know one.

RE: Crazy deer story!!

acting pretty much like a "downer cattle" in livestock circles, the picture part is pretty sad, i would have just left the animal where it was until it could be put down. but at a plant like that if someone had said i'll go get my gun, that person would have been fired quicker than the deer could have been dispatched. keep posting willyd5, the deer is sick but alive, i would have really perferred the paticipants left him alone[&o], some folks just don't know any betterand that is a shame.

BTW, i have had goats do the same way, they cannot stand up on their own, but you can get them up, give them antibiotics, and hope they make it, some do, some don't, i have even held them up and as soon as you let go they get wobbly, they actually appear that their head is the heaviest part of their body and they will just fall out, i have alsoused hot-stick to get cows back up. but when an animal gets as sick as that deer is it probably has no idea of what is going on. jm2cfwiw
