depends on the distance of the shot. 200 yards...no way! But yesterday I took one at 50 yards running broadside. Any other angle and I would have passed.

Theres a differance between hunting deer and shooting deer. Some of the crowd control work done out of windows get 20 deer a night in the city.I talked to a guy yesterday who has a permi to shoot 11 deer at a zoo in town here.Hes all excited about it.NOT THE ONES INSIDE THE FENCE. but they are tamer than my dog.He was getting some new arrows etc.I know the deer get to be a problem and its gotta be fixed, I guess it was the guys attitude about it that hit me wrong. If you think road hunting is a fun time, then you should try sitting or still hunting. Now thats a rush! Try it some time,Youll never go back to that other trash.

Maybe some posess the skill to effectively and consistently take running deer. I'm definately not one of them. If I were to shoot at a running deer I would be relying on luck to make a killing shot. Out of respect for the deer I'm just not willing to take such a high risk for wounding. Obviously I can't gaurantee even with a standing shot that something might go wrong but at least if the deer is standing or maybe slowly walking and it is within a range I'm comforatble with, then the chances of a wound are pretty small.

The goal is to slow them down! When you hit them with a 3'' mag they fall down, if they want to get back up we have 4 more in the chamber. So, Yes I shoot running deer. I shot more deer running than standing still. This year I shot2 deer during gun season they both were running. I had a doeSTANDING 10 yards from me this year and missed it, go figure.

I will only shoot at running deer. It is just not challenging enough for me when they are standing still. Plus I like to track them.

For me to shoot a running deer, it would have had to survive the first shot. Hasn't happened yet.
As I watched that vidoe, all I could think of was the failure of the hunter to know his target and what is beyond. If that ever happened on one of my leases, the hunter would lose his lease and feeand be given about 30 minutes to collect his gear and leave. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior. |

yes. hunt a good bit where people run dogs and that can require the occasional running shot. only if the situation is right though.
