I'd also go with a .308 or 30-06. You can buy ammo for those calibers everywhere and it goes on sale frequently so you can shoot more and pay less.

what kind of area are u gonna be hunting some were shots are gonna be fare or close or in brush and trees

Yep! Maybe an '06 added to the list. There are lots of choices out there, but these calibers right here are all really good deer rounds. I'd pick one of these four in a gun you like the feel of. Go to some gun shops and shoulder a few. See what you like in a price you can afford.

Try to get a good quality variable scope in a 3x9 and you'll be set. The Bushnell Banners are a nice scope for the money. If you can afford better, get it.

7mm-08, you could get the Remington Model 700 SPS, it's cheap for a high-quality, bolt-action rifle.
