Well, I went out yesterday here in Virginia looking for my first buck. I had higher hopes to get a deer with my bow, but since it was a buck day, I just took the rifle out hoping to get one. Well I got up in my stand about 30 minutes before sun up and had 2 does work by me for about an hour. At 9 am I decided to go find my 2 friends and see how they were doing and then go squirrell hunting. I went way back up on a ridge and didnt find them, so I figured that they went back home. I started heading back down the dirt road and I heard 2 gunshots from way back in the woods near this permenant stand, which is one of our favorites. I figured they snuck back there and popped one. So I go down the road about a half mile and enter this field to head up to this stand. About 50 yards into the field, I turned around for some reason and there was this spike just running in circles in the road. So I load and raise my 30-06, but couldnt steady myself for the shot. The spike runs into this high grass, back out to the road, then down the road a ways into the woods, and back out. I grunt and he comes charging into the field. I take a seat to get a good rest, and cant see him anymore because of a little hill. Well he pops up over the hill, not 20 yards a way and is just moving like he is late to an appointment. I try grunting to stop him, but he wouldnt, so I just yelled "HEY" and he stopped in his tracks. The rest is history, I dropped him. I realize its just a spike, but my first buck, I am really excited.
