I got him!
Hi all,
Well, I got my first buck of the season yesterday morning. I got into my tripod stand around 5:30am and saw and heard nothing till around 8:25. I hadn't seen a decent buck on this club since I joined a couple years ago. Anyway, I'm sitting there and I hear a bunch of twigs snapping and a buck grunting coming from the thicket that my shooting lane borders. A few moments later, a doe runs across the lane and a few seconds after that, a buck crosses the lane in hot pursuit. I didn't even get a chance to raise my rifle, they crossed so quick. I raised it anyway and no sooner had I raised it, then another buck came out further down my lane, and started trotting directly toward my stand. One problem, he had his head low to the ground and offered no shot that I could be sure of killing him with. He keeps coming til he gets to the spot where the doe and other buck crossed, and then turns after them. I had been using a Primos Lil Can doe bleat and had it handy, so I grabbed it and turned it over and the bleat was loud and clear. I set it back down on my backpack, looked down the lane and a third buck a 7 pointer missing a brow tine came into the lane and stopped 50 yards away broadside in the lane and started looking for where the bleat came from. I shot, and he mule kicked and ran off. I waited 10 mins then went and checked the lane. After a few minutes, I found blood and started tracking him. I found him about 75 yards from where I had shot him laid down and dead.
Weird, how I hadn't seen any bucks on that club worth shooting, then see 3 in about in the space of 30 seconds.
