First Arkansas Buck!

First Arkansas Buck!
Well I got my first Arkansas buck this morning. Had been on my stand since 5:30. Wanted to be settled before anyone else moved into the neighboring woods. At about 7 o'clock I glanced into the open field in front of me and there he stood at about 70 yards. I was so shocked to see one so soon after the season started that I completely missed him with the first shot. He only ran about 10 yards, turned around and looked in my direction. Needless to say the second shot from my 30-06 did it's job. He's a mainframe 8 point with a split brow tine on the left side. He had broken off his right side brow tine but there is a sticker that's just about 1 inch long so I'm calling him a 9 point! Has several other stickers that give the rack alot of character.

RE: First Arkansas Buck!
Congrats on a nice buck from a fellow Arkie. I live just down the road in Russellville. I also went out this morning and saw a small basket racked 6 pt. and a spike. I have already taken a doe last Friday with my bow and my daughter shot her first button buck last Saturday during the youth hunt.
I plan on going out all day tomorrow. I hunt north of Piney Bay on Ross Mountain.
Congrats again on the buck.

Howdy flyinfeathers,
Well at least you saw some deer this morning. Congrats on the doe and to your daughter on the BB.
We just moved here from PA in Feb and have almost 20 acreas a little bit north on 103. First time ever shooting any deer on property I owned....sweet!
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you see a big rack tomorrow. Since I have 2 in the freezer I may not go out again for a few days. Altho there are several larger than this one around here but we only see them on the game cameras. We never knew this buck was even in the area. Buckwas scouting the area for doe when I saw him.
Talk to you later and good luck.
