Here they kill them in the winter. Deer like to swim or run through water to lose the coyotes in the summer. In the winter that water is call ice here and deer can not run on the ice due to their feet. Once they hit the ice they go down and can no longer get up. They split their ham strings and it is over. Simply put they are coyote food then. Coyotes kill alot of deer here in the winter months and are commonly bigger then in your area down there.
