Don't feel bad. It is a great experience to take a deer cleanly and ethically. Congratulations!!

Buttons eat good , and in my state you can check them as antlerless so that your buck tag doesn't get shot up . We only get one buck these days due to the efforts of whiny trophy hunter wannabes . My county is designated a reduction county for antlerless , they allow up to 8 , and since I'm a meat only kind of guy it doesn't bother me to shoot dumb little buttons . I prefer a deer that dresses out more , but late in the season I get a bit less picky .

My friend took a fawn and it had the best meat you could ask for. Congratulations on your trophy!!A deer is a deer and is as much of a trophy as you want it to be even if it doesn't have a rack. I know of many young deer smarter than rack bucks I've seen, so some are as much of a challenge as the big ones.
