Default shooting deer in the shoulder

i was reading a hunting book that said if you want to drop a deer in its tracks you are suppose to shoot the deer in the shoulder.this is suppose to break there shoulder and kill them instanitly. ifyou hunt on public ground they recommend this shot so other people dont get your deer. will this shoulder shot work. has anyone made this shot on a deer?

I think in most cases it will work ..it may not drop it in its tracks but generally it cant go far with its front sholders broken and I think a lot of it has to do with what type of bullet your using ..

I shot a buck last season with my .270 wsm at 100 yards in the front right shoulder and he droped right in its tracks stone dead. I am a believer that the shot does work.

The 243 takes them out fine if you hit there shoulder. I seen a buck shot with a 30-06 in the shoulder fell in its tracks, walk up to it the deer took off with its back feet just a pushin his front, kind of like a dozer

If you break both front shoulders, the deer will be immobilized but not killed instantly. If you break only one shoulder, the deer will run away just like a lung shot deer.

Had the exact same thing happen to me last year with a doe took a shoulder out and then the bullet deflected and broke its other front leg and hit one lung but it still hoped around on its hind legs like a rabbit but she did pass after a few moments.

The shot works, high shoulder shot. Last season I shot a buck with this shot to prevent him from running back down into a 100 foot deep ravine where he came from. I used a 30-06, 180 gr. bullet. He dropped in his tracks.

I prefer a Heart/Lung shot. Never go too far!

Holy smokes how far of a shot was it and how much of the deer was left. I know i shot a deer with a 30.06 with a 180grain bullet at 50 yds and i thought i blew the thing in half thats why i stick to 150 now.
