Would you shoot these deer?

Here are 3 bucks in this picture. Would you shoot any of the two in the back or let them go another year?

I'd give the one on the far right a good look-over, but I might be inclined at first glance to let e'm grow another year... especially given the fact they'll lose a good bit of mass with the shedding of that velvet.

I'd have to say that if I got either one of those fellas with in bow range and the shot presented itself, I'd probably take it.

The far two yes, the one on the far right for sure, the one right in front of the camera I think I would pass on until another year or so.

Nope! Nice deer, but not "shooters" for me.

You know what's weird is that the buck on the left in the back i saw a week ago at my lease. Its g 2 looks like it got hit or something because it looks like someone grabbed it and tried to snap it off. The G2 goes about 4 inches up and then is bent straight back down.

If they have antlers I'll shoot them. Those back 2 are really nice bucks.

anything with a rack is DOWN!

Personally, no. But I wouldn't look down on someone who thought they were.

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

No I wouldn't shoot ether one of them, all three of those bucks look like they are only two years old.
Let' em live and let' em grow nice big wide racks with tall tines, something that you would be proud to hang on your wall.

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

I have to go along with my fellow Missourian GregMO. The one on the right looks like a bigger bodied deer than the other two. But the rack doesn't impress me that much. But a better look at a different angle may change my opinion. But I usually will see bigger deer than that where I hunt.

Yes in bow season.

The one on the right seems to have a pretty decent gut on him. Given the amount of growing time left from the time of that pic, he will be worth taking a 2nd look at after the velvet is gone.

If'in I was hungry enough,
and had my AR-15 wit me,
all three. ;)

(heck, the "little" one would be decently big where I hunt:( )

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

Depends on how the hunting is where your from. Where I'm from we love to PTDOTG it's about the opposite of QDM. Put the deer on the ground

USNRETHunter 08-14-2006 08:22 AM

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

If I saw the three together like that, no doubt the one on the back right is going down. That said, I hunt for meat, a nice rack is a bonus. Seen separately, I'd take any of them. Younger meat is better meat.

If it's brown, it's down.

NOPE!! For one shooting over a feeder kinda sucks and is illegal in WI. Now iof they came through my corn field id have to think about it but id probably let them walk.

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

I would let the first one on the right walk for sure.

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

The one on the far right, maybe, I'd like to get a better look at him out of velvet. The other two look like a pair of young fellas. Might want to let them grow another year or two.

All 3 for me. :D

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

wis bow huntr, I know to you and other northern guys you all probably think that hunting over a feeder is cheating. In texas where I'm at, if you don't use a feeder, I promise you won't see a thing unless you hunt a food plot. In a way it can be harder because the deer are already tense when coming into it and they always know where your stand is at and are looking up at you before you can see them. I wouldn't use feeders if i didn't have to but in texas, all i can say is good luck if you hunt somewhere that doesn't have a ton of deer.

If you are asking for guidance, I would say you shoot whatever makes you happy. I wouldn't shoot any of these bucks now, but there was a time when I would have been happy with any of them.

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

If those were on my land, no. But in a national forest theyll get shot either way, so yea. But if I were having a bad year on my property i might take the far right one.

Id personally shoot the 2 bigger ones..Imnot a hardcore QDM person yet

RE: Would you shoot these deer?

ITHINKI WOULD HAVE TO LET THEM ALL WALK. THE 2 BIGGER BUCKS LOOK TO BE AROUND 2-21/2 AND THE OTHER IS HIS FIRST RACK. But you shoot what ever makes you happy. If ya letem grow and keep feeding them they will be back.
