RE: 20 guage too light for deer right?
I have seen deer killed with a 22 lr, so I don't think 20 ga would be too light.

Check out the ballistics on the Winchester Partition Gold 20 gauge Sabot.
My kid has taken several deer with it in a 20 gauge w/ a rifled barrel. If I remember correctly is is a 245grain hollow point copper jacketed slug doing about 2100 fps. That is hotter than most any magnum muzzle loader around. 2 inches high at 50 and dead on at 100 yards. Great for any short range deer gun. Hank |
RE: 20 guage too light for deer right?
Killed many, many deer with a 20 gauge. My uncle, who owned alot of different shotguns, prefered a 410 to deer hunt with. He also put many deer in the freezer with that gun!;)

With the newer sabot loads for the 20 ga the bullets and ballistics are almost the same as shooting an inline muzzle loader. And Inlines are very effective on deer. Up until a few years ago the inline was better than a slug gun as far as accuracy and range go.

RE: 20 guage too light for deer right?
I used a real OLD bolt action 20 gauge when I first started out. I killed many deer with it and 1 past 50 yards. I have in the past few years switched over to a 12 ga. however.
My cousin dropped 2does on 2 shots at over 100 yards with his 20 gauge so they are deadly if placed right. |
RE: 20 guage too light for deer right?
I live in a state where 80% of the hunting is done witha shotgun and the 20 is a fine choice. The .410 is illegal here due to the fact of how accurate it can be; not the small guage.
