Closest I can get to5000 feet is via airplane. Most mountain tops around me are only 2000 to 2500.

RE: Thick woods
In Indiana about the highest elevation I can think of is 900 feet , we don't have hills that high and we certainly don't have mountains . We do have some pretty thick woods though . This is the view from my favorite ground blind:

RE: Thick woods
I often hunt paper company lands in northern Maine and New Hampshire. Most places are between 1000-3000 feet above sea level. The woods are thick and are comprised of a mix of hardwoods and conifer. I like to focus on the sags and saddles that are near the peaks. I find the larger deer like to cross through the saddles. I am a tracker and usually hunt in snow so those areas deserve most of my attention. Bucks will scrape in the more open transition areas of a saddle and often bed on the lip facing a steep slope with the wind at their backs.
