RE: Thick woods
I hunt in NETenn. on the appalachain mtn. chain. It is around that elevation and gets thicker the closer you get to North Carolina. The best way to scout is to get a topo map or to just get out and walk. That elevation is not that bad you should be able to walk through it easily

RE: Thick woods
I used to like hunting in the hardwood ridges here but most have
been harvested so now it is next to the big cedar swamps or some of the ols cuttings. My favorite is sitting on a ridge looking into the edge of a cedar swamp. And the cedar swamps are thick. |

RE: Thick woods
When I hunt high, I prefer to find a Quakey or Pine bowl between two ridges and spot and stock. There isn't a lot of thick brush in the bowls.
In Washington State where the timber has been cut it's all over grown with black berry bushes. I like to forget the times I've had to drag a deer out of the black berries. It's almost as bad as the cactus here in Texas. |
