Lanse,

As I said, I too believe a hunter has an ethical responsibility to retrieve a downed deer. Where we disagree is that you seem to believe that ethical responsiblity trumps the hunters responsibililty to not violate trespassing laws. I don't. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree there and be satisfied that we at least agree on some points. Have a great day and go in peace!
You know whats kinda interesting, is growin up in Ky, Southern WV, TN, it was never an issue. Landowner could care less as long as you he didn't see you kill on his land. He might even want to help you drag it back. But man, since movin north, it seems to be real issue, and further north you go, people seem to make a bigger stink out of picking pepper out of flycrap on trespassing laws. I guess land is a premium up in the north..Or neighbors don't bother to know thier nieghbors. I don't know, but find it interesting.

Sylvan, its just the internet. I highly suggest you don't take it too seriously. I mean, we ain't curing cancer here. Just chattin about really nothing. But my theory seems to be right about uptightness. Thanks for confirming.

Yep Big Country, in this instance you are right on the mark in terms of where the lack of ethics can be identified. But NYBH should get partial credit for the set-up.
Newsflash: Not every landowner is as passionate about hunting as us. I'm simply less narrow minded about that fact than you are. I respect the rights of the landowner to do whatever the heck he wants with the land he bought and pays taxes on. Who am I or you to tell him otherwise? You ever think maybe he could give a crap about hunting or recovering deer? Regardless ..... he doesnt' need to justify it to you. If you have that big of an issue with it, go buyall theland you can.

bigcountry,
Seems you are the one who's shorts are too tight, lanse and I were just having a little friendly chat. I do have a tendency to call a spade a spade though and reducing an ethics dicussion to a north south issue as you did is, like I said, pretty shallow. So don't takebeing criticizedso seriously, loosen your shorts, and maybe give your posts a little more thought next time. Have a nice day! :)

The placemy groupof 4 hunts(600 acres)backs on too another property(400 acres) that 2 brothers hunt. It would be considerred big woods and swamp. There is a cattle fence that divides the properties. The first year there we approached the brothers who had a bad time with the people who formerly hunted the property we are now on regarding retrieval.

There is2 area's that this could come onto play,, we didnt hunt this area but used it too access a couple stands further into the property,, they had a couple towers built close too the property line. We had a stand set close too theyre property in an area they couldnt access.

We got together and did a tour showing each other our concerns. They agreed too let us shoot over the fence in the area we had our stand since there was no way for them too access the area. We decided we would leave a marker they could see from theyre towers if we were in the area. If the marker wasnt on the fence post they could shoot onto our property. They couldnt believe it was that easy too negotiate conditions that would benefit both groups!Either party could cross the fence for retrieval at any time. Openning day they shot over the fence and killed a real nice buck,, they came too campafter darkand said we shot a buck by the tower. mind if go over the fence and retrieve it? Lets have a beer first and we will get the atv's out and you can bring it right down the road.. they actually couldnt believe we brought them right too the spot, helped them gut it, load it up and deliverred it too theyre camp.

It worked out very well,, both groups now get togetherfor dinner every night and detrmine stands too be used the next day. Or if drives are being done where they will be taking place. Both groups have tagged some real nice bucks over the fences since this has began. No hard feelings about it,, just a reason too get together and celebrate with a couple beers!

Your better off working together than trying too one upeach other.
