Default Stare-down by an 8 point buck!!!!!!!

Hey there...

Well, here's my adventure of the day. I setout for the WMA at zero dark thirty as usual. I wore my insulated coveralls, and had new scent blocker, small Primos 5-in-1 call tube, and some doe scent wavers from Primetime along with everything else that I pack.

I dragged a scent waver behind me and approached the back part of the archery range (where I saw a huge rub and scrape previously) by walking along the side of a dove field. Up on ahead I come across a huge fallen oak tree that is the absolute perfect, most incredible, natural blind I could imagine! I immediately make note of it and exactly where to position myself in it, and kept walking further. Well, ahead of the distance I heard a doe bleat followed by a low grunt. I panic and hurry back to the fallen oak tree. I get out the Primos call and do a quick grunt (then realize it's set on "Young Buck&quot. Roughly 10 minutes later I see a big doe coming up the edge of the dove field with an 8 point buck trailing her. She's gets to about 35 yards from me. My blood pressure begins to rise. My heart is in my throat. I let out a quiet grunt. The doe freezes and scans the fallen tree. Then the buck appears and sends her off while he comes to look for the "Young Buck in the fallen oak". I slowly bring my bow to full draw and freeze like a rabbit. The 8 point buck is facing me, snorting, 30-35 yards away, and staring right at me. Staring right into my soul. My blood pressure probably hit 260 over 180. My arms were screaming from holding a 65# bow at full draw. I had my famous "Cardeer Necklace" on (and I'm not being weird or philosophical or anything, but I could swear that the necklace was translating the deer's body language and expression to me). The buck wouldn't move. It just stood there facing me glued to the fallen oak tree staring at me. He was like, "YOU dare draw a bow on ME?!? Well alright, c'mon punk. Do it. C'mon fool, release that arrow. ....never mind loser, try again next time".

Then he tore off after the doe.... Buck: 1 Butch: 0

I had to sit back and gather my thoughts before hunting again. I NEVER had an 8 point buck stare me down before and it sent a chill up my spine and put my heart in my throat and I could feel my heart pounding through my clothes! Talk about an adrenaline rush! WOW!

I know one thing for sure. I WILL BE BACK THERE AND WILL FIND HIM! THE CHALLENGE IS ON!! Hehehehe.....

Butch isn't hunting great!!!!! Man I have never had a stare down with a buck, I have had more than my share with doe though, the old ones are the worst, they are like an old woman who is giving who the silent stare down, who is going to blink first!!!! LOL Hopefully this old boy will mess up the next time you confront him.

I have had a few good stare downs with does, and once with a buck but not like that. Like Tazman said isn't hunting great, man my pulse would have been going a hundred miles an hour.

Hope you get another chance at him! If so let us know.

Good luck.

KEEP HUNTING THE GREAT OUTDOORS & GOD ALIVE, PASS IT ON!
