so your in the field gutting a deer and im guess since you shot the deer you have at the very least a loaded rifle ? AND im guessing you don't carry a side arm or the dude would have been laying next to the deer your gutting with aquarter size whole drilled through his head............So he walks up, looks at you, pushes you over, grabs your deer and walks off ? while you sit there on the ground ?

Just want to make sure Im getting everything. You are how old ? How old was he ? Im guessing he was armed ?
give us the scoop ?

Did they give his name in the newspaper? Look it up in the phone book to get his address.

Find out where he lives.

Throw nails in his driveway.

Egg his car and house.

Buy a paintball gun and paintballs. ( preferably a semi or full auto model)

Freeze the paint balls.

Do a drive by with some friends late at nite. Frozen paintballs will put out car windows or any windows for that matter.

Get a dozen of eggs. Put a small hole in the top and suck the yoke out. Fill with brake fluid and cover hole with tape.Put back in egg carton and be careful they don't tip.

Throw them at his vehicle. The brake fluid will eat the paint off.

WELL THIS FIRST THING I WOULD SUGGEST IS TO REACH DOWN TOWARD YOUR CROTCHAL REGION AND MAKE SURE YOUR DOO-DADS ARE IN PLACE. BECAUSE FROM THE DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENTS AS YOU POSTED THEY HAPPENED IT SOUNDS LIKE HE TOOK THE DEER FROM YOU BECAUSE YOU LET HIM.

How in the world did some one just walk up and take your deer like that ?
Unless you were on some one elses land and he was the owner.

Your story just don't sound right.
Like the others said, it looks like you left part of the story out.

JMHO

So what is the whole story ?

RE: deer stolen while in the field

it happened in miami co. indiana and i was using a single shot 20 ga. i also only had the slug i downed the buck with i was always taught not to fight over a deer but this one like i said still bugs the crap out of me and i was field dressing him with a sharp stick an old indian showed that trick to me. I do have the guys nameand me vs. his auto 12 ga. i don't think would mix to well i have thought of getting a hold of him to try to buy the buck back i have heard of this in a few huntingmags. where guys have bought back there deer.

RE: deer stolen while in the field

DING-DING-DING!!!!!!!!!!Something pegged out the rotten meter!
Let's see.......
Stolen deer while hunter has gun and should have a knife if the field?
One bullet hunter? (Barney Fife, maybe?)
Gutting 'em with a stick?
25-30" spread? (would probably put the deer in the top .5 percent of deer in the whole US of A!)

Hmmm...........
Perhaps if the last statement was true, the guy was just getting his $50,000 breeder buck back, AND that might account for thr reason you "GAVE" it back to him without a fight!

RE: deer stolen while in the field

I hope you have learned something from the experience. 1) Take more ammo. next time. What in the world were you going to do if you wounded a deer and had nothing to finish it with, NOT COUNTING A SHARP STICK, and what if you would've missed, throw the gun at the next deer you see!! 2) Take a good sharp knife when hunting large game, it works better than any sharp stick ever did, even the indians would've used a knife if they had one!! 3) Hunt with a partner, not always necasary, BUT in this case, it would've been helpful! 4) Don't wait two years before deciding to do something about it!!
Sorry to hear your story, although it does have a few holes in it!! At this point, if you want it back, looks like money out of your pocket is your only choice!!
Live and learn and MOVE ON!!!

WOW ...this story kind of reminds me of the story my ol'e pappy use to tell me about when he was fishing and he hooked a MONSTER cat fish ...he did not land him so he didnt know just how big it really was but he said all he knew was that is was SO BIG that all he saw was eye balls on BOTH sides of the boat ! ...."Beam me up Scotty ..no intelligent life on THIS planet "

RE: deer stolen while in the field

We ran onto a fish & game guy while we were elk hunting. He was eating his lunch on top of a canyon. We started talking to him and he pointed at 3 guys that were packing elk quarters out of a steep canyon and he said they took his elk at gun point while he was feild dressing it and told him to leave or they would shoot him. He was waiting for them to finish packing the quarters out and he was going to reveal that he was ODFW and arrest them. So it does happen. I'm not sure about the "sharp stick" feild dressing thing, lol.

ok field dressing with a stick??? the reason that old indian used one was because he couldnt get to walmart to by a knife. how is it possible to let someone steal your deer? i dont buy it. unless you shot it at night and the guy who took it had a badge a gun and was a game warden then i believe it but i still dont believe someone would actually field dress a deer with a freakin stick lol what was the guys name. i want to call him and ask him what he thought when he walked up to you and saw you dressing out a deer with a stick. we need to talk to that guy lol
