Shed Pictures

Hey Guys,
Wanted to share a pic of the sheds we collected this year.I posted it in the bowhunting section but thought you guys would enjoy the pics as well.We ended up with just over 150 and found some NICE ones, with alot of matching sets. We are very proud of finding this many, because many of you know how much work it is to find them, especially in bluff country. Hope you all have safe and successful season this year.

Nice batch of sheds , but that's the ugliest dog I've ever seen . How did you get him to stand on his hind legs long enough to snap a pic ? ;):D

That is amazing! I am feeling good if I find one or two sets. Truly incredible. What do you do with them all?

We outfit a few hunters a year and when one of them shoots a buck it great to be able to give them the sheds from the year before or even a few different set from the same deer. Alot of the deer in Buffalo County carry distinct characteristics on their racks and it is usually pretty easy to tell if we have the sheds from the deer. It adds another fun element to the hunt. We have a blast going through the old sheds and trying to find the old matching sets sets.

We decorate the lodge with the rest of the sheds. Most of the sheds have stories to go along with them and to be perfectly honest I just love antlers. I'll post some pics sometime of the interior of the lodge.

Are those out of a high fence place ? Ive never seen that many sheds in my life.

NO FENCES here Texas8point. Thethought of high fence makes me sick to my stomach. These are all on our land and they are free roaming whitetails.

Yes that is alot of sheds up here it is like finding a needle in a haystack.
As we have alot of woods here and less deer. But, here is a shed from a moose for you to see.

Wow that's a lot of sheds! This year between my dad and I we only found two small shed antlers, it's hard finding them here. How far apart did you find all those antlers? Or did you have to walk a good ways to get them all?

laird 07-06-2006 07:26 AM

RE: Shed Pictures

We walked every night after work for about a month and a half. It becomes very addictive. Once you find one you want to see if you could find a bigger set or a matching set, etc.

Phil from Maine,
that's an awesome set of sheds you have also. Is that a matching set????

Phil from Maine 07-06-2006 08:58 AM

RE: Shed Pictures

Yes they are I had found them 20 yards apart and plan on mounting them. They have a 48-51 inch spread on them not sure original size
As with the angles it can change. It has thirteen points on him and we have seen him prior to this find a few times.

new61375,
There really isn't a trick to finding sheds. The only advise I could give is to get a good pair of walking shoes.........or maybe 2 pairs. You just have to cover alot of ground and don't overlook any spots. Once you find one it will fuel the fire to keep looking.

Congrats on those amazing finds! How many acres did you cover while looking this season?

laird 07-12-2006 11:43 AM

RE: Shed Pictures

We covered about 1200 acres or so. The majority of them were found in the woods but we do find some in the fields.
