Buck Ahead Of Schedule **PICS**
Here are some pictures of the buck that I mentioned in an earlier post. It seems that he is way ahead of schedule on growing. It also seems that he is growing a really strange rack. I know this deer from last year and that right side has really changed within a year--don't know why either. What does everyone think about the amount of growth so far--will he grow much more or is he almost done?

Sweet! I think he's only going to go a few inches more though at most. the 'bulbs' on the ends of the tines aren't that big anymore...when they fade away the rack starts hardening. Neat deer, would a body injury cause that deformation?

Great pictures. I would say he has been eating well. I read a article last year or the prior year talking about non-typical rack and how they form. The author mentioned that during early formation, the deer could have had some type of minor accident to the antler area. Then it causes his antlers on that side to become non-typical. Just a thought.

I don't think the antlers are done growing, they have a couple of months yet.
The one deer with the odd rack might be get to be real good shooter. Good Luck |

The abnormality on the right side is almost definitely an injury to the antler. It appears as though it is to the antler itself and not the pedicel, so should the deer make it through this year, it will most likely grow back normal next year. It's pretty awesome how it is though. I think I'd rather have it messed up. Also, if you're in Georgia, that deer should still have a substantial amount of growing left to do. I'm in Alabama and the deer here rarely ever shed their velvet before the third week of September. Antler growth is triggered by the extended length of daylight in the summer time and tommorrow is the longest day of the year. Those antlers should be growing really fast right now.

I have noticed as well the difference in last year and this years bucks way ahead of schedule. here in Tn I have seen 8 bucks on our land all 6 and 8 point salready and anywhere from 6 to 14 inch times.... I have never seen them com out so early , not that big anyway.
