RE: Total deer harvested???

i have been hunting for two years and i gave killed three deer. One sika spike on the eastern shore w/ a crossbow, one large doe with my savage 270 in WV and a little button buck (thought it was a doe) with my savage 270 as well in WV. I would have another doe added to my list but my friend told me not to kill a doe for the first few days b/c he wanted one ofusto get a buck. so i passed up about 15 does, lol, and then never saw the buck. then when i went back in on the last day of the trip, i ddint see anything lol. i learned my lesson. this year im gonna kill the first "respectable" deer i see (no fawns lol). hopefully my kill # will increase :)

I'm 41 and have been hunting since I was 12.

114 deer

53 were with a bow

58 with a rifle

3 with a muzzle loader

I hunted in West Virginia and PA.

Most were does and most of my bucks were small. I'm not what you call a trophy hunter.

For a While I use to average 6 or 7 a year, but since the kids started hunting I only get 1 or 2. Now I play hunting guide.

My daughter is 16 and has taken 12 deer and my step son is 17 and taken about 18. He also hunts in Maryland with his uncle.

Here's a picture taken a few years ago during youth antlerless season.

with some of these numbers posted, isn't it funny!!! Some guys are worried about how many deer coyotes kill!!! Looks like the coyotes could learn a thing or two from some of you guys:D

RE: Total deer harvested???

The reason my numbers are pretty high...I don't hunt public land...90% of my deer hunting is done on land owned by me or family members...farm land in eastern NC...We raise corn, soybeans, peanuts, cotton and wheat.
Deer eat all of these...cotton not as much as the rest...About 20-25 years ago we could count 25-60 deer in a field...A deer can eat about 12 pounds of forage a night...There went your profit...My brothers and I went through about 10 years of really working on the excess population...
We now see 6-10 deer in these same fields...and...the last 3 years the bucks have really put on more mass, because of the higher quality forage during the winter and the rut is more intense...In other words, we are actually seeing bucks looking for does...In NC the season and bag limits are pretty liberal...If you farm, they are even more so.
