During the rut deer move more. After the rut I prefer the new and crescent moon phases.

I say the pre rut especialy during the chaseing phase. When the rut is in full swing the bucks are pretty much doed up and the movement seems to scale way back. Thats just my 2 cents Mike

I vote rut especially when the dominant mature bucks are concerned. The big boys get that way by evading man and only during the few days of the heavy rut do they take chances and show themselves.

i have better luck durin pre rut thab the rut and have good luck on full moons .just have to know how to hunt the moons its crazy.

Pre rut when the bucks are looking. Full rut he takes a doe and hangs out with her in an open spot and I have noticed deer activity slows down.

Without question Pre-rut. The rut is an all or nothing affair and I have seen many a mature buck completely abandon the routines that I have worked so hard to pattern. If I don't get him in the pre-rut I just pray lady luck will work her magic when its time to tend does or lookto post rut when life becomes more than just chasing some xxx!

I put the rut for just plain seeing bucks act crazy but I really like the very tail end of the pre rut into the seeking phase better than the chase phase.
