Wow, this was different.
Yesterday morning I was having coffee and watching three deer in the back yard. They were there for almost 2 hours. They finally moved to a small dirt road which leads directly to the tar road with all it's traffic. Anyway, they came within about 20 yards and the big doe decided to head back away from the tar road and the two smaller deer followed. I watched as they slowly moved away.
Abot 15 min later I was picking up some fallen branches and walked out to this old dirt road. The deer were there about 50-60 yds away, on the road. They saw that I stopped and all three were watching me. Finally they all decided to walk toward me and kept it up until they were within 20 yds. This took about 10 minutes. I never moved and I guess they never saw me as a threat. I have never seen deer do that. They finally decided to move away when my dog started barking. Actually, he never saw the deer but was barking because he wanted to be with me but he wears a collar to an invisible, wireless fence and I was out of his range. The dog's barking never really bothered the deer and why they all decided to come closer to me is a question I don't have an answer for. It was very cool watching three deer get closer and closer. I would have liked to haver seen how much closer they would have come if my barking Springer Spaniel was in the house. |

Same thing as a farmer riding on the tractor. They see it all the time and usually aren't scared and continue to feed. Theyb seem to know what is a threat.

I have fed wild deer carrots out of a truck window during the off season a couple of times.

Well, of course - every deer hunter knows that they not only know what a gun is, but they read newspapers, too (to find out when opening day is). :D
