Default 270, 7mm-08, or 25-06 for deer?

My friend is looking at getting a new deer rifle, and asked for my caliberinput. All the shots would be open field, with max shots being out to 300 yards. We've narrowed it down to the 270, 7mm-08, and 25-06. Which one do you think is best for open field deer hunting?

Obviously, the flatter the trajectory, the better. But other important factors include recoil (the less the better), cost, which one gives the best clean kill, andcommercially availableloadoptions (he doesn't reload.) Any input would be appreciated.

270 is very good, 7mm08 is better. largest bullet of the three mentioned, still a mild recoil, very versitile. Quicker kill on larger deer. nuff said.

For deer only,I like the 25-06as it shoots flat and will provide quick clean kills on any deer with proper shot placement.

Any of the 3 would work JFL. I think it would come down to availabilty of the rifle he likes best( fit, feeland features) and OTC ammo in your/his area.

I agree with skeeter. Not that much of a difference between the three.

I hunt with a .270 becuase my longest shot is 200 yards. If I had a 300 yard plus shot i think i would use the 25.06 for deer or varments only. Anything bigger than deer, go with the 270.
I don't own the 7mm.08 so i can't say.

Any of the three. I would now be more concerned with getting a quality scope.

All 3 calibers are good. But if I were to chose, I'd chosea .308 hands down.
