Although this isn't the woods, the only time I get nervous is walking the dark desert during the early November deer hunt because it usually hasn't gotten cold enough for the rattlers to go away yet.

I get scared when I hear the noises at night. Early in the morning is not as bad, but when night falls, that usually gets to me for some reason. I could hear a mouse fart, and i'm looking around in circles. I always feel thoses noises are closer to me than they actually are. Call me crazy but I just start talking to myself thinking that whatever it is making that noise will be scared off.

I love walking into the woods in the dark. The cool crisp air, the clear sky and bright stars, the owls, the silence...it's invigorating! My only fear is that there may be some idiot I'm walking past who could decide to loose and arrow or bullet in my direction upon hearing my footsteps or glimpsing my shadow. I often keep a small flashlight turned on and pointed at the ground so anyone who may be around can tell I'm another hunter and not some imaginary superbuck they can't resist shooting at.

If I wasn't armed, sure, I'd be a bit apprehensive. However, I'm carrying a .30-06, a .30-30, or a 12 gauge, along with a .357 or a .38, and I could very well handle whatever I came across.

the only one time not buddies bear or deer darting from a nooontime snooze. The one thing was walking up within 10 feet of a skunk. I practically S&*T in my pants. Think about it the smell would have permanented all through my clothes I would have been on my way home the car would have smelled to no end and my day of hunting beginning at 5:30 AM would have been over.

first day this year me and my buddy was walking to stand and as we would pause to catch our breath we would hear noises. didn't really think about it till we split. then as i walked towards my stand i could hear every little thing in the woods. it was 45minutes till day light so once i got to my climber i quickly scurried up the tree. then i felt a lot better. but ever since then i have been fine. i guess that first morning back in the woods was alittle weird.

I have been in the woods all my life and I am a very large man. Having said that I will admit that there are times I get terrified
in the woods at night. Espesially alone. With hunting buddies it is different but I believe that people can pick up on bad vibes in the area or a "disturbance in the force" so to speak and it effects them.
From swamps to foothills I have learned that there is something to fear out there in the dark that defies explaination.
