I agree all the above, watch a squirrel eat corn thats just how they eat it.As for the non feeders lets not get that started again.

Gene, I too felt the same way when I read that remark. It is upseting when you come on here and try to ask legit questions and then someone decides to envoke ther opinions on you and turn the question into a debate. And yesmy deer are like livestock!! I bugs me that people are totaly ok with buying burger from the store when that cow was penned up and never even allowed to experiance freedom but deer are some how much more deserving than beef. And dont even try saying because it was born in that enviroment its different because its not. And just so you dont worry about me,my frezzer is full of corn fed beef and deer! now to answer your question not sure if bugs can do it because I dont think I have ever had that problem from bugs but I have watched squirrels do it. It seems like they dont do it at firstthey take the wholething, but then when they get used to it they start gettingselfish and only eat the center.

Then its got to be squirrels! its too cold for bugs and the corn is never more than two weeks old.

Gene, it is probably squirrels! They eat the heart out of the corn, and leave the rest!
Don't worry about the "holier-than-thou's! If its legal, you are hunting just as much as anyone else! Its getting to the point that hunters can't get a legitimate question asked here, without being torn apart by the wolves!
I hunt by the legal rules of my state, and sleep very well at night! If some folks don't like that, they can KMA!

Yep, it's the squirrels.
Some states have determined that using rifles is not fair chase, so they disallow them. Some might argue that it is because of the closely populated areas, but at least oneof the no rifle states I can think of have acres upon hundreds of acres of open country corn fields, so that line of reasoningmust be disqualified.

I say stay within the laws of your state and if your state let's you use a center fire rifle, and if you find it ethical.....by all means use it.

Guys, I understand that hunting over feeders is legal and traditional in many parts of the country. I really don't have a problem with it and don't want to imply that I do. In Vermont where I live, they recently outlawed the practice of any baiting. They have done the same in neighboring New York too. Their reasoning is to not concentrate the deer to eliminate some chance of CWD or other respiratory diseases made worse by high numbers of deer in a feeding situation. I like to track and realize that what works well here might not work where you are. I am open to most types of hunting with the exception of high fenced hunting. My feeling on adding supplemental feed is that the deer are wild creatures and shouldn't need additional nutrition. Here in the north the deer's metabolism slows down in the winter months and their stomachs can't digest high protein feed. Their customary diet consists of twigs, budsand cedar which is usually found in their yarding areas. According to biologists that deer in the north can actually starve to death with full stomachs of supplemental high protein indigestible food so theydidn't recommend feeding them in the winter even before the ban on baiting. I know that lots of people set up feeders to watch the deer in addition to hunting them. No problem here and if you are a baiter and it is legal then have a good time. I think the one important thing is that you are hunting which is good.

Right on Islander,I'm starting to agree that maybe feeding deer up North isn't a good idea just because of the CWD.Here in the South I just returned from a hunt and the deer could care less for the corn but loved the food plots.Go figure!
