ORIGINAL: uncle matt The 30/30 always served the Rifleman (Chuck Connors) well. Let's do a little trivia here............. What makes and models of rifles did the Rifleman have? What is the large lever called? What special feature did the Rifleman's rifle have to allow it to speed shoot? Oh and a quote from Lucas McCain (the Rifleman)........"Scopes? We don't need no stinking scopes!" Heck he just blasted everyone from the hip! 5 bad guys he just opens up from the hip. 5 shots - 5 down. But he never killed any of them, well placed shots to the wrist or arm, then call the old doc to patch em up while their in Micah's North Fork jail. Course the show had to leave you wondering about the power of the 30/30. Kinda like the A-Team - bullets flying and nobody dying. |

I use a win. 94 in 30-30. A great choice for river bottoms here in Kansas. It does not have the range, of say a 270 in open areas. But it forces me to be a better hunter and isn't that what it's all about? Use it for deer and coyotes.

I don't know if if Browning still makes them or not... But I know they are available to purchase second hand.. Also, I doubt folks looking for milder recoil are passing the .30-30 in favor of a .308 or 7mm-08. According to the laws of physics (for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction), the .30-30 should have less recoil than either of the 08's unless the .x08 is quite a bit heavier. Thats just a guess.. And I'm not even going to get into that bit...:D With everything equal..The 30-30 will have less... But as far as I'm concered if one has problem handling the recoil of a ..243, 308 or 7mm-08 they shouldnt be hunting period...:D I suspect the reason people are passing on the .30-30 is that, for virtually any hunting scenario, there is a better caliber available in terms of ballistics and versatility. I agree..:) However...I was referring to the person(in this thread) that wants to purchase a 30-30..And maybe give him an alternative to different cal... One that is stilloffered in a lever actionhas superior in ballistics to the 30-30. Has outstanding accuracy well as better bullet selection and is mild in its recoil. Maybe not as mild as the 30-30 but very manageable non the less. [/quote] |

I still use my Winchester 94,but I may lose it to a grandson soon.

I shot my first deer ever this year with a .30/30. If you aren't gonna take shots over 150yds, it's all you need.

I like my marlin 30/30 and enjoy using it every year deer hunting.
