RE: How would you like to come up on THIS in the woods?
ORIGINAL: DoctorDeath ORIGINAL: buckhunter14 I'm doubting the 91lbs, but by far the largest snale I would EVER wanna see.... located just south of the Alibates Turnoff on Highway 136 south of Fritch Texas. [THAT'S JUST NORTH OF AMARILLO] A reminder that these creatures are actually out there and no matter what you believe, sometimes they should get not only prescriptive rights to be there but the full right of way! 9 feet, 1 inch - 97 lbs. No matter what anybody else tells you, kill the snake before you try to do anything else to it! It's the safest way for you and the snake doesn't care anymore. So its 97lbs not 91 ... dd I'm from the Amarillo area, and have farmed around Fritch. There's no doubt that there are A LOTof rattlers around here. Last summer I saw the most I'd ever seen. But none this size. That thing is a monster! The bad thing about rattlers is they don't always rattle. I'm sure some biologist or someone on here will disagree with me, but I've been around them enough to know! Some rattle, some don't. But both scare the crap out of me! I've got some snake chaps, but have never worn them. I think I'll be wearing them from now on. You'd need more than chaps to stop that snake though. It'd break your leg when it struck. With a pair of snake catchers and the correct camera lens, it's easy to make a large rattlesnake look like a monster. Holding the snake close to the camera makes him look big and the guy with the catchers look small.
I've caught and sold many, many rattlesnakes, and a western diamondback over even 51/2 feetis a rare find. A snake over 6' is very, very rare. And out of the thousands of snakes I've caught, only one went over 6 1/2 feet. It was just slightly larger than a 6'6" t-post (I was building fence at the time). He was large enough, one set of catchers wouldn't pick him up, so I restrained the head with the catchers and had to grab the body. I'd never seen a snake that big, so I wound up letting him go. I tried to take pictures with my dad's 35mm camera, but the film didn't advance and the pictures didn't turn out. |

I have to come down on the side of the snakes.I used to raise them just to get over the fear of them.BUT asnake that size would have me backing up.Why I love cold mornings.
