RE: Question on hunting ethics
When people that I don't know ask me where I shot that one, I tell them, Right in the heart! I've actually had people try to follow me to my spot then ask permission as well for the same spot! It takes all kinds.

One person knows where my stands are and that is just because it's a pain carrying a bunch of stands up really big hill so I recruit help from my dad. (Which he showed me where most the spots were anyways, but doesn't bowhunt to much anymore). |
RE: Question on hunting ethics
As i indicated in a previous posting, I have minimal experience at hunting on public land. However, some of the posts on this topic indicate that it might be helpful if there was some sort of system to assign hunting spots by a lottery system. I know that the Army Corps of Engineers does this in regard to duck hunting blinds in some areas. Obviously, therecan be a big difference between assigning a spot for a blind and doing it for deer stands.Would it make sense to develop some sort of grid system where folks are assigned a spot within which they have at least a couple hundred square yards to set up a blind? It might be a royal pain to do the initial survey work, and you will always get folks who don't like their assignment. But it might help to avoid a lot of problems inthe future. Just my two cents worth.

RE: Question on hunting ethics
ORIGINAL: DoctorDeath AL the good Doctor is not being hard on you BUT you have just learned a very tuff lesson .... was it unethical no not really in my opinion ..was it cold blooded and inconsiderate yep very much so ..but it was public land so no one has reservations ...but maybe next time you will not talk to much about your hunting area ...there was an old saying back in the big WWII .." loose lips sinks ships" ..from now on you'll know to keep those special hunting and fishing holes to yourself ... I learned that the hard way years ago taking my best buddy to my honey hole for bream fishing ..we caught a ton ...the next week I floated int omy hole and there he was with a buddy of HIS .... needless to sayI do not share that information anymore ...by the way CONGRATS on your 11 point ! dd |

ORIGINAL: Hotburn76 If your smart this should be the only time it happens to you. I made that mistake once and will never make it again. It's sad that we cant go to work and brag up or honey holes but thats just the way it is. And when I do make a kill I try to down play it like it was a total shock that a deer was even around. Unless we own the land this is just what we have to do. It's very sad. Whats even worse is I though the guy was a friend and was more considerate then that. |
RE: Question on hunting ethics
Its like this, if you find a good place to hunt, keep it to yourself. UNLESS you KNOW that you can trust the person. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() J/K |
RE: Question on hunting ethics
ORIGINAL: ALHunter74 The one guy at work said yea we were out here last night and scouted and left our stands here. At first I didnt even think about what they had done until someone told me that was wrong. So, do you think it was cool what they done, or wrong? Can you belive one of them was here at work and saying I moved in on their space, lol. How could I do that when I never even knew they were hunting there? Like most everything else in deer hunt'n, most young'ns just got to see it for them selves. Now if you learned something, just consider it the cost of an education and watch yer lips from now on. There's a good reason the good lord gave ya TWO ears and only ONE mouth. He was try'n to do ya a favor. |

We used to allowfamily andfriendsto hunt for free, but allowing them to hunt became allowing their friends to hunt, and then the friends start bringing friends. Try to be nice and people walk all over ya![:@] I have hunting spots in every pasture, and if I died today, the good Lord would be the only one that knows anything about them. |
RE: Question on hunting ethics
I guess I have a different view on this! I hunt with people that share hunting spots instead of hiding them! I my self would rather have a friend or family member hunt in my area than a total stranger! But I really don't care if someone hunts in a tree I hunt. More power to them. I like to see others be successful! I have made alot of friends on public land and we now hunt together! My father taught me to enjoy the hunt no matter the outcome and share the experience! The guys I hunt with spend all year preparing their land as I do mine, they enjoy for my son and myself to hunt their stands! On public land as well! I guess I don't see the point in hiding your hunting spot especially on public land, you can only hunt one stand at a time! If someone wants to hunt your tree you must of done your homework! I also take pride in that! :) I try to treat others like the way I would like to be treated! JMO!
