What color tracking light?

What color tracking light do you use on a blood trail?

My Browning Black Ice, has a super bright LED, it is a blue-white color. It's such bright white, it almost looks like a blue tint. When tracking, the blood just glitters in the light. :D

MDYB, what bulb configuration is in your black ice? They have 4 different configs available in this same light. I am curious b/c I personally haven't found many LED's to be super bright. About the only benefit I have found with LEDs is power consumption properties are much lower. My petzel has finally given up the ghost and I am in need of find a suitable replacement. So I'd be interested in some more details about your browning? I may have to check them out. Thanks

BTW the petzel wasa goodhunting light, plenty bright and best of all hands free. The only complaint is battery life. Mine held 4 AA's which isn't thatspendy but it seemed to chew em up pretty quickly in continued use situations. They also froze very easily, due to the battery pack design (plastic). In Saskatchewan that isn't a great quality!

I like to use a coleman latern. That really makes the blood stand out. I also use my mini-mag with the LED insert. That works really well too.

While tracking my first deer ever this year, I alternated between white and blue. The blue really made the blood trail stand out. Wanted to try a colemanlantern, but it was in my truck a couple of miles away.

My Black Ice has the 6V with the center Xenon bulb and 6 LED lights. It isn't a spot beam by any means, but I havn't found a LED to be (yet...) I think the Black Ice is just a great handy little flashlight, that always got me in and out of the woods. The Xenon bulb isn't worth a hoot, the Bulb never lasts very long, but I find the LED's more useful anyways.

I have never had to track a deer but If I did, I would use the Sure Fire . It has a very bright blue/white light. Hunting on the prairie means the deer will usually never get out of your sight.

I've never used a red light for tracking a blood trail , but it seems like the blood would be hard to see since it's also red . I use a bluish white LEDheadlamp for tracking, which has a red LED also, and I only use the red one for finding my way to my stand to avoid compromising my night vision . How would a red light make red blood more visible ?

I use my trusty coleman lantern. Works fine for me, I think its almost easier to track at night than during the day.

Skeeter, get a Browning (of whatever configuration), you won't look back.

Before shotgun deer camp this season I went to Gander Mtn. and bought 3 different lights. All use 2 of the 3V batteries.

Mine for hunting is the multi colored one. 2 red LEDs, 2 blue LEDs, 2 white LEDs and a high intensity (xenon?) bulb in the center. The red LED is really nice at night when you don't want a white light (white kinda causes a "snow blind" effect & prevents you from seeing past your general area). The white is nice too in trailers and tents and the like where you want more of a flood effect.

I also bought the one with just a single 1W LED and it is bright. I carry this everyday as an inspection light and it too is really nice. (Everyone asksto play with it.)

The last one was a combo package with a nice folding lock- blade knife. That was only $35 and I thought well worth it. Nice matching camo pattern on the flashlight and the knife. The knife really was nice too w/ the Browning insignia laser cut thru the blade & black finish. I gave that to my oldest boy as a little gift when we were on the road down there.

Darn those Gander Mtn stores anyway. Everytime I leave I think I'm closer to understanding my wife's shopping "ettiquite". LOL
