Mr. Z,
At most reasonable ranges that Whitetails will be hunted, the .243, with good, 100gr.hunting bullets, will takeANY Whitetail that the .280 will!
Some may mention "brush busters," but there IS NO such thing!

Jag you aint got to tell me.
I have hunted with a .243 primarily for 25+ years. Prolly around 125 kills including hogs. not one has got away or needed a second shot. they dont go far either, I hadONE doe go 100 yds, and this was with a perfect heart shot, the rest drop or go a little ways and pile up. My kids use my .243 with the same results.

i was thinking about using the 243 in more dense hunting areas because it's a lever, or does it matter

Mr. Z, the lever gun is probably a little shorter, so it would be good in denser areas, but thats the only real advantage that you would have with the lever gun. I'm not much on "follow-up" shots! Either you get em', or you don't!

Zrex, I consider the .243 to be an excellent minimum caliber for deer size game! You won't get an argument from me on the .243/6MM!
