i like and always had great results from "hawgs scents" its works better then the real stuff. also, no matter what deer scent, or cover scent you use, the most important thing to do, is try to stay scent free as you can. wash your camo, and underwear, jeans, socks, long johns, etc. in scent free soaps, hang dry them outside, once dried put them in a fresh clean plastic bag let out all the air, and tie it up. shower every day, also before going hunting shower with scent free soap (body & hair) spray yourself down with scent killer, get dress at the spot you park, stay away from diners with the smell of eggs, bacon, smoke, fill your truck tank with gas night before. use scent killer spray on your camo, boots, neck, face, hands. being scent free is the most important part, no deer will come in if he smells you. good luck.

mauser06, you will often have deer come down wind, but it usually happens when you aren't toting a bow and even so to turn and draw that deer is gone. I always hunt the wind and believe me if you ignore that rule you won't be to successful...regardless of your scent free garb or rituals. I don't believe in scentlock suits either, but scent free is important when bow hunting. Every precaution you take will translate to the field. I am not a nut I still often fill up with gas on the way out of town, I wear my camo from home...just dress light and keep my truck cool so I eliminate sweating. I will dress lightly for the walk to my location then get fully suited. I wash my clothes in Arm & Hammer Scent free laundry, shower before heading out with ivory soap and use scent free pit stick. Air dry all clothing. In between hunts I will place my camo in a rubbermaid container with some baking soda, earth, leaves and sticks....ready for next time. That is it not expensive, not hard and works well.

As far as scents or attractants I am not a believer they really work to much benifit. I prefer hunting natural rublines and scrape areas...let the real animals leave their own marks you know.

Grunt tube is a must, just for the same reason you stated to stop them for a shot. Blind calling can be a double edge sword, so stick to contact calling (or visuals) During pre-rut and rut I think rattlin horns are a must(real antlers or sheds), I have taken some great deer that have come to the show and passed many more.

The most important thing to bowhunting, well any hunting really is scouting, knowing your area, different plans, evolving and play the to your favour wind.

After field testing carbon suits for over 5 years, with about 150 days a year in the woods, I can tell you that they do work. I won't hunt without some kind of odor eliminating suit. I'm currently using Contain odor eliminating clothing. It's half the price of the other suits.
I use Wildlife Research Center scents. I actually came up with the idea for their elk and mule deer scents. Scents can work, provided they are some-what fresh, and you take precautions not to contaminate the area with un-natural scents; like human odor, food, cigarettes, alcohol, gas, oil, etc.
Scents bought this year will be no good next year.

If you have more questions on deer, elk, turkey, ducks or geese post a new topic addresed to T.R. here, or e-mail me.

You can tell a young buck like you Mauser. You just can't tell him much. Eventually you will learn to listen to the answers you get when you ask the questions. If not then don't ask them.

I hunt like skeeter and cop says. I have done this for years with good results. I think I have bought one bottle of attractant scent in 32 years of whitetail hunting. I bet between skeeter, cop, myself, and some of these other guys you could learn how to bag deer in no time.
