Meat or Trophies

RE: Meat or Trophies
Meat hunter here. If its old enough to have a big rack, the meat is too tough and gamey for me. I've gotten spoiled ondoes and young bucks whosebackstrap you can damn near cut with a plastic fork. I might shoot a really big buck if I wanted sausage, but would probably give the antlers to the kids down thereroad.

I hold out for big bucks but I kill plenty of does for the meat. The only time I pass on a does is when there is a buck present or, during the rut, the doe acts like there could be a buck on the way.
Ialways pass on young bucks and button bucks.
Passed on a whole lotta little bucks to get to these guys below

Meat. I would shoot a buck if thats all I found for meat. Otherwise its all does. I might shoot a Trophy buck if one bigger than the one I have cames along, Thats not likely though.

Both. I won't shoot young bucks. I'm a trophy hunter in that regard. If a mature/trophy buck (according to what I'm looking for) doesn't come my way then I'll eat buck tag soup. But I'll shoot enough does to give me and my family enough meat to last untill the following season. Usually successful in having a freezer full of meat for the year.

I shoot young does for the freezer and will pass on young bucks early in the season, but if its getting late the season and the freezer is low, a button buckbetter not be inmy path.Sorry about his luck. The biggest buck I have on the wall is a eight point so I wouild like to get a big one some day. Trying to practice game/buck management but I like to eat too.

The first few days of the season, I will pass on about anything but a large buck, but since we only have a 9 day season, I can't get too picky after that. I took a decent 8 point this year, but it's still smaller than most everyone else's "decent sized" deer.
