What type of rack do you prefer?
 

Assuming they score identical with the same mass do you prefer the sky high tall racks with less spread or do you like them wide? Any preference if you had a choice?

Kinda both. My ideal buck would be around 22" spread with alot of mass and gotta have one drop tine. For some reason I like them. PLus tall tines but not to tall to make it look wierd. Someday when I shoot it I`ll show you. Hell if I see one I`ll post pic of it

I like em taller....

Here is a good example...the deer I took this year(top) scores almost 10% higher than the deer I took a few years ago(bottom) but I find them just about equal in qualityto my eye.

Well I KNOW I am walking in a mine field replying to this post but I would have to say the narrow tall racks get my attention ..ofcourse I suppose I may be a little bias ..;)

Honestly DD,

I think your buck is awesome because it is soo unique. However narrow and tallis my least favorite...They just don't look very natural....

umm, i like the mass, wide, with lots of points and droptines. but there's only one other rack that's better,;):D:D

My favorites are dark wide long tinedsymmetrical 10 points with a lot a mass.

Of course I too am a little biased.

Was the rack that dark when the deer was shot, or did the taxidermist darken it? Do you have any pics of the deer before it went to the Taxidermist ?

The reason I ask is that I know some Taxi's seem to darken the rack, not sure whether it is always intentional or not though...

Being in Florida I choose any thing longer than 5" but my dream buck is a wide 12 point with long tines and perfect symetry. Dark would make that perfect.;)

I like the basic 10/12 box type rack with good spread and decent tines. I like the wide rack look better.

Did Frank Zitz's shop do your European mount? I am referring to the buck on top.They did one for me a few years ago and the display looks extremely similar.

Tine length coupled with mass are the characteristics that appeal to me the most.Of course if the buck happens to be exceptionally wide all the better!

You didn't list symetrical, typical, or non-typical. I like tall, symetrical racks. But then, there are very few wide racks here anyway.

My dream buck,

25 inches wide with long tines, dark antlers, double symetrical drops, symetrical kickers on the g2's, and good mass as well.

I prefer the nice wide racks. The Buck I got today was a little narrower then I would like, buthe is still going to look good on my wall:)

That one made my knee shake involunteerily. It was the first year I was going to try for a trophy buck and he was the first one I saw!

The pics I had are on a computer that is not working at the moment. I thought I had them on here, but I guess not. The base of the antlers are pretty much like I shot the deer, but the tines did come back from the taxidermest darker. I told him that I wanted them to be as dark as when I brought it to him, and they are somewhat darker. If you look at the tips of the brow tines, you will see the lighter color. That is the more accurate color of the tines. I may have over emphasized the fact that I did not want the antlers to come back any lighter.

I like all the racks, the more nontypical the better........but i like'um tall with mass (like doctor deaths big boy)
