Crap..
ok this might seem like a weird thread...and it will be but im curious
ok well the other day i was squirrel hunting and i was noticing alot of deer crap everywhere i mean there is ALOT of it back there, i mean i no there is suppost to be but at the beggining of the season there was none, i mean i couldnt find any sign in there to hunt off of but now there is sooooooo much i dunno where to hunt i mean can deer like "stay away" from an area over deer season and come back or can deer just migrate to my land ? im just soooooo confused cuz when i was squirrel hunting i seen more deer then i did in season and have found more scrapes, rubs, and CRAP im just so lost, i dont know what to think i would REALLY REALLY appriciate it if some1 could tell me what the heck happened ????????? |
RE: Crap..
I would hunt where the crap, rubs and scrapes. Maybe you overlooked all the deer crap before season and maybe the leaves covered most of it up. Hows the hunting pressure in your area. Maybe they found a safe haven where no one hunts it.

RE: Crap..
I'm taking a wild guess here! It could be that there are red oaks in this area where the crap is. I've noticed, that the deer where I hunt, usually don't go after the red oak acorns until after other food sorces ( white oaks, corn, apples, etc. ) are exhausted.

RE: Crap..
Well after 30 years of deer hunting and being the hunter that I am I have learned two things ... when you find deer tracks and deer crap it means that deer where there ...thats WHERE I would hunt ..yessiree buddy !

RE: Crap..
Most of the time "in TN anyway" you will find "the Poo! LOL" alot more frequent.... When winter " what little we have" hits the acorns, appricots and persimmons all fall and there is more to eat near the deer stand. Hence more of the Poo!

RE: Crap..
well there is ok pressure but maybe 2 people on about 80 acres so they can stay in a spot a long time without pressure
that is a good point but i dont no what red oaks look like [&:] o well but no i mean there is still leaves and stuff there is just poo everywhere lol |
RE: Crap..
I have two areas that I hunt in. The one the deer are there early in the season, like before the freeze, cold, snow ect, and also pre rut to rut. But late season its like the area shuts off. Then my other spot that is ten miles away is one of those areas that the activity is kinda slow in early season, but then when the snow flies and the ground freezes that spot is one where the deer "herd" up. not sure why this spot is good late season cause I don't think their is alot of oaks or other trees that produce food. The only thing that the area has Is a real nice clean creek, but its not like its the only one in the area.

RE: Crap..
well this area has a dried up stream running somewhat in the middle of the property ...so i dunno im just so dumbfounded about it

RE: Crap..
ya'll didn't know! deer have calendars too.
p.s. taste the deer poop to make sure some kid didn't spill raisenettes (sp?)! lol |
RE: Crap..
Heres what I would do. Take some of that crap, put it in little baggies and freeze them, you can use the deer droppings to your advantage next season. it works as a cover scent. When the season starts up again, scatter the droppings arond the are of your tree stand or blind. Other deer will not know the difference.

RE: Crap..
i knew i shouldnt have posted this thread. i knew u guys would make fun of me ...o well i got all the advice i needed i think bu

RE: Crap..
Red oak leaves are pointed at the end. White oak are rounded. Are there lots of acorns on the ground in that area?
|
RE: Crap..
o ya thats what most of the trees are
there are acorns everywhere....but still wouldnt they eat them during season ?instead of waiting until after? |
RE: Crap..
Deer like other foods better. Especially white oaks. They say the white oaks ar sweet and the reds bitter. After all the other foods are gone they'll eat the red oaks. My dad has several huge red oaks in his yard. The deer won't touch them untill sometime after Christmas. Here in Pennsylvania most food supplies are exhausted by then. They have to eat something, so they start hitting the red oaks in his yard.

RE: Crap..
well then how am i to pattern the deers movements ?
if and when they eat the acorns after my season is over ? because i have found alot of spots to hang my stand but if they will only be there after season where am i to put it ??????????????? plus would i put up a cam after season like as in right now or when would u put it up ??????? |
RE: Crap..
When I was a young pup many years ago, I was told once by an old timer thathe could tell from the droppings what the deer were eating. When I asked how he told me "boy, ya jist gotta know yer sh!t";)
Seriously, it sounds like you've probably discovered a winter bedding area. first thing a deer generally does upon arising from its' bed istake a dump. |
RE: Crap..
Find what they are eating earlier in the year.( apples, crab apples, corn, white oaks )
White oaks drop every 2nd or 3rd year. Red oaks almost every year. |
RE: Crap..
well this whole 80 acres is covered in **** and sign so i dunno
i will go out sometime and fine oak trees and take pics of the leaves and ask u what they are |
RE: Crap..
Deer have a winter area that they use only in the winter called their "yard". When in their yard they will stay in an area of around 1 sq mile. This could very well be why there was no sign there then and there is now.

RE: Crap..
like i said earlier

RE: Crap..
Like others said deer will move to where the food is at. They also start to herd up this time of year in my area. On my property in Northern Michigan they move into the swamps to stay out of the "weather". If it was so easy to pattern them it wouldn't be so addicting, at least for me! Good luck! Keep the info others posted and apply it for next season! You will always be learning, I do!

RE: Crap..
Yeah! And in my experience, its EVEN better to find them standing IN the tracks, taking a CRAP!:D Jag, you would'nt?:D:D:D |
RE: Crap..
ya.. i will save all of this and use it next year and hopefully it works
