Default Dod Gammit!!!

Went out on some deer drives today. On the last drive, I was hunting the edge of a field, and the stand was facing away from it into the woods. Another guy was in a stand across the field. Since the drive was started way back from the far side of the field, I was looking over my left shoulder, figuring any deer being pushed through would stay in the woods and come up the field's edge about 30 yards away toward me.

Several minutes into the drive, the guy on the other side of the field was yelling "maink.......maink" So I turn to look over my right shoulder and sure enough, here is this buck running through the wide open field from his side to my side between us. By the time I got my gun up, he wasentering the woods on myside about 25 yards away, still moving at a good pace right into the thick stuff. At roughly 35 yards or so, he stopped, but it was way to thick toget a kill shot on him. Oh well, I enjoyed being out there and having theexcitement anyway. By the way, we compared notes and concluded ithad a 16 or 17 inch spread, decent mass, but didn't appear to have any long points off the main beam.

He was one of the standers too. In fact, he had no shot and was trying to stop the deer for me.

We might get it together again for shotgun. It's much nicer when we have enough people to do it right, but we only had four people total.
