As long as you inspect them and keep up on the maintenanceof them, no problem!

Im not asking for money SKID, thanks though...
I know you're not but just want you to know that the few extra $ should not be a factor when it comes to safety.

I am considering making almost exactly the same stand, but if you send me $100 I might reconsider

Saftey is always a number 1 concern, and I will not hunt in it if I don't feel it is very safe... Thanks everyone!

More guys have died trying to save a few bucks and build they're own stands. How much is your life worth? Do yourself a favor and buy a TMA approved stand before you are in a wheelchair due to failure of a piece of wood!

buckhunter14,

While I admire the work and care you've put into that stand, please listen to the others and put your safety first!

If I am correct, the two up rights are only fixed to the base with screws from underneath? And those screws are into the end grain of the uprights??

If so that is a fundimental flaw in the design and a *very* dangerous one!
If you are going to build a wooden stand, those uprights should be rightly against the horizontal beams and the screws should be going into the sides, if that makes sense????

The other thing to be wary of is the platform...at present it would be easy to trip or get your foot stuck on that...you need the slats closer together to be safe or cover it with exterior grade ply...The other problem with a wooden base (especially ply!) is they get slick very quickly if left in the woods...you need to think ofmaking it a slip proof..covering it with wire mesh might work???

Regards,

Pete
