Default Anyone hunt whitetail in Texas??

I know that's a pretty dumb question to ask, but it got your attention!
What I was wondering was, what caliber is y'alls choice for whitetail down there??
If you were just going to buy a gun forDEER ONLY, what caliber would it be??? (I'm not asking for brand name of gun, just caliber preference)

Thank ya for your time!

contrary to popular belief, a lot of Texas isn't flat, so not everywhere will offer you long shots...

I know people who use .243's/30.30's if they hunt on small chunksland or land that won't offer them a long-distance shot...

I use a .270 myself...

.243, the last doe my dad shot with his .270, there wasnt much left of the shoulder. .243 hits hard and takes em down fast, without doing too much damage

I usea .270. Haven't had a deer or hog take more than 10 steps after being hit. Don't have any reason to change.

I hunt blanco county and the deer here are overpopulated and don't get that big. I use a .243 because it takes them down without blowing them up.

I have a variety of guns and calibers that I hunt with, but my favorites are 270, 300WSM, and 30/30. I have killed several deer with 243, but it is not a caliber that I put alot of confidence in.
