DO you do it?
I use both! Different lenses for different days! On sunny days I use the Polorized lense on gloomy mornings I use the Amber Lense and it makes the light in the woods open up. Remember use shatter proof lenes. I use Remington's. For hearing protection,I use Lee Sonic's. They are surgical rubber with valves, the valves close when you or some one fires thier weapons.

RE: DO you do it?
Hey DD, can you hear me now?:D:D:D
You know what, I rather lose my hearing than my sight. I might not be able to hear them, but atleast I will still be able to see them!:) |

Don't know how that happened. I don't use either, but I can't hear crap out of my left ear. I blew a hole in the left eardrum shooting those dang 155mm's.

Any website for the Lee Sonic's?
Thanks Steve |
RE: DO you do it?
Being an RSO I should use glasses more than I do, but I always use ear protection. I do use glasses and ear both when others are on the range with me, but when alone I neglect my eyes. Not Good!
|
RE: DO you do it?
I have always used hearing protection, but I too neglect my eyes. It seems like I shot a long time beforeI even thought about using shooting glasses. Even though I should, I just never got in the habit.

RE: DO you do it?
I use hearing protection on the range but nothing while hunting. I normally wear glasses.
|
RE: DO you do it?
Never glasses. i only wear hearing protection when i am at the range.
|
RE: DO you do it?
if i'm shootin' a few times then i don't worry about it but if i'm shootin' a lot then i'll use ear protection.
|
RE: DO you do it?
I only use them at the range, not while hunting!
|
RE: DO you do it?
Wearing glasses is one of those things you know should be done but there never really seems to be a good day to start. Although a small burn in the facefrom abusted primer on the range made it came closer, it hasnt made it all the way yet.
I started using hearing protection when hunting when I got a com radio to connect with them. Quicky found out that the darn things made me hear more of the surroundings. This is not my proudest post on the forum. ![]() |
RE: DO you do it?
i'm also guilty of using neither. the only time i use eye and ear protection is when i am on duty and on the range conducting advanced firearms training or close quarters combat.

RE: DO you do it?
I always use hearing protestion....it would be pretty bad if when I turned 18 I needed a hearing aid.
I use glasses whenever I shoot my flintlock...lots of burning powder going everywhere. |
RE: DO you do it?
Neither, but the 30-30 isn't too loud, and I don't get the .308 out all that often.
Most of the time I'd rather have the bow in hand anyways. |

RE: DO you do it?
Neither...
The first time I fired my .270 I didn't have earplugs on, went and got some that day, wore 'em deer-hunting... didn't take 'em dove hunting, noticed I loved the loud sound going along with the kick, just added to my enjoyment even more, so I stopped wearing them... |
RE: DO you do it?
ORIGINAL: DoctorDeath Neither ... dd same here |
RE: DO you do it?
I wear the hearing protection, but since I wear prescription glasses I don't mess with additional eyewear. I've lost significant hearing already from my years in a 155mm Arty Bn, couldn't hear the gun commands with the hearing protection on, so now Ihave to live with the results.

RE: DO you do it?
What Is A Dangerous Noise Level?
[blockquote] Both the amount of noise and the length of time you are exposed to the noise determine its ability to damage your hearing. Noise levels are measured in decibels (dB). The higher the decibel level, the louder the noise. Sounds louder than 80 decibels are considered potentially hazardous. The noise chart below gives an idea of average decibel levels for everyday sounds around you. Painful: 140 dB =firearms, air raid siren 130 dB = jackhammer 120 dB = jet plane takeoff Extremely Loud: 110 dB = rock music 100 dB = snowmobile, chain saw 90 dB = lawnmower Very Loud: 80 dB = alarm clock 70 dB = busy traffic, vacuum cleaner 60 dB = conversation, dishwasher Moderate: 50 dB = moderate rainfall 40 dB = quiet room Faint: 30 dB = whisper [/blockquote] |
RE: DO you do it?
8. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLASSES AND EARPLUGS WHEN SHOOTING. ![]() The chance that gas, gunpowder or metal fragments will blow back and injure a shooter who is firing a gun is rare, but the injury that can be sustained in such circumstances is severe, including the possible loss of eyesight. A shooter must always wear impact resistant shooting glasses when firing any firearm. Earplugs help reduce the chance of hearing damage from shooting. |
RE: DO you do it?
I dont use hearing or eye protection.
|
RE: DO you do it?
neither
|
RE: DO you do it?
I use hearing protection when i am sighting my gun in or when i know im goin to be shooting for a while. But not when im hunting.
|
RE: DO you do it?
neither. I was thinking about this yesterday too. problem with hearing protection (in the field, I always wear protection at the range) is I feel handicapped. glasses, never thought of that, maybe I'll check into it. anyway, I really heard my 243 bark yesterday when I shot this doe. my ears actually rang for a bit afterward. never had that happen with any of my rifles.

RE: DO you do it?
niether for me
|
RE: DO you do it?
I spend a lot of time at the range where I use both. In the field I don't use either.
|
RE: DO you do it?
neither...well, if I remember, sometimes when sighting in I'll wear ear plugs. Just how rare is it to have something get into your eye when shooting?
|
RE: DO you do it?
The results are about what I figured. I only use hearing protection as well. And honestly, the reason is probably the same as most. The chances of an accident happening are very low. And I usually don't have a pair handy, otherwise I would wear them.

RE: DO you do it?
Oh i agree! I just wondered if there were any "stats" on the subject. I mean, THOUSANDS of rounds were shot between the few hundred guys I went through basic/AIT with, and no one ever got anything in their eye...had a hot brass or two go down the shirt, but no eye injuries. I planon using both from now on, when target shooting or sighting a gun in. I have2 daughter that have just recently started showing interest in shooting/hunting, and I need to be an example.

RE: DO you do it?
RebelHog,
One other thing. I wasn't asking because I wouldn't use it if the "odds" were low (which I'm sure they are), I was just curious. What are the chances of someone being hit by a train while riding a motorcycle? I don't give a damn, because I GOT HIT.:D |
RE: DO you do it?
Yes Stone, the chance's are rare and they are low......Do you trust your eye sight to Cartridge Companies and Arms Companies?
|
RE: DO you do it?
Ask the guy that this happen to! How many of these were sold world Wide?
