I hate to bring this back to the top, but I have to weigh in.......

Doc, I can see why you are ticked off. I prolly would be too. He may have just been excited and didn't take the time to look real good. It happens especially to new hunters or those without a lot of kill experience. Talking to him about "why" your angry would be best. He may not even exactly understand why you are upset. Try to be the better man and mentor and keep him interested in hunting, but don't forsake him. That helps nobody.....My.02

As for shooting the deer after dark with a light. I would have done the same thing. It called ethics! A wounded deer does not deserve to suffer if it can be killed quickly. NY and others on here seem to take every opportunity to hammer someone regardless of the situation. IMO you did what 95% ofth hunters in your same situation would have done.

A 30 yr old "man" should have enough common sense not to do that. That would be the last time he hunts with me.

DD, you are not responsible for the stupidity of others.

I have friends that live in Huntsville. He's the track coach at UAH. You can invite me to hunt anytime. I won't be as foolish as your friends son.

L.D. he and I have talked a couple of times since then ...he understands how I felt and still feel about it ..I understand he still does not quite appreciate why I did not want the yearlings shot ..soooo I guess he will be hunting somewhere else in the future but not wil me ...

Actually I only get in one or two of these debated threads a season. But....... if the shoe fits..........

The other 5% know how to recover a wounded deer.
