In my book a poorly shot deer is shooting it at night, hence breaking the law=poaching. If one is such a hunter end its suffering legally or accept the fact! If you read DD post he shot at "eyes looking back at his light" now thats responsible?? Give me a break! I bet you would try and argue with a Stop sign ! ...and your screen name sure discribes what your post makes you look like on here ..a "fool" .. DD- I have one question for you. Was the deer fatally wounded? |

I thought you and I had an agreement ....you JUST can't let it go can you? ..However I will respond one last timeto one of YOUR questions .... yes in all honestyI imagine that the shot would eventually have been fatel seeing as how the deer had the left rear quarter blown out ... but after finding the deer after he ran off andat 40 yards in the dark with a flash lightthat was hard to determine ...but by the blood trail and the fact he was lying down with his head up I felt the best thing to do was to put him out of his misery ... you know some of you self rightious hunters just amaze me ... there was never anyINTENT to break the law but to do the right thing is regards to the animal ... when we entered the woods there was no intent to "poach" as you have called it and so easliy label others with... this is just something that happened ..and after seeing the situtaion I made a decision and I stand by it and would do it again tomorrow night if the same set of circumstances applied ..no appologies !

ORIGINAL: Bionicrooster DD, I hope you didn't take my post as an insult or anything, I was just saying if he was inexperienced and got too excited and shot the deer(legally) then I think the best thing to do would have been to congradulate him, then explain to him how to better identify young deer / button bucks and why you try not to shoot those deer. I think sometimes we all need to remember how excited we were on our first or second deer. Case in point, I had one in the scope today at 25 yards and I thought it was a nice doe, was 3 seconds from drooping the hammer when it looked at me, and I saw it had 2 inch spikes, so I let it walk. A few years ago and seeing it had horns and I would have shot and been thrilled with a spike! dd |

HEY DD WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? IT WAS ONLY HIS SECOND DEER. IF YOU DONT HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE AND YOU SEE 2 YEARLINGS TOGETHER A LOT OF NEW HUNTERS CANT TELL HOW BIG A DEER IS. SO I WOULD GIVE THE GUY A BREAK. BESIDES THE YOUNG ONES ARE THE BEST EATIN:D:D AND PERSONALLY ALL THESE "SELF RIGHTOUS YOUR A BAD HUNTER CUZ YOU BROKE THE LAW" HUNTERS CAN TAKE A HIKE I WOULD OF SHOT IT AFTER DARK TOO TO PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY.

Say what you want about DD, but his topic has generated 10 pages of pretty interesting discussion. If he pisses you off, why do you keep coming back to his thread. Because deep down, you love it too, i would think.

i think it all boils down to what each person believes is right or wrong. in the situation Doc has described above, i would have done the same thing. i do not believe you can rightfully call what happened "poaching". finishing off a deer that has already been shot during legal hours and season is not poaching...in my book. i also find it hard to believe that any game warden, atleast around my neck of the woods, would make an arrest on this.
also, if other hunters on here feel that it is their duty to hammer other hunters on here on their way of hunting or their beliefs, then so be it. maybe it makes them feel like more of an "ethical" hunter to point out what they think are "wrong doings". whatever decisions that you make in the woods and in life in general, you have to live with. if you can sleep at night and feel that what you have done is right, then who cares what someone else thinks. the only person who has the right to judge anyone, is the good lord above. everyone else is going to piss and moan about something!;) |
