10 year old son's First deer 8 pt.
12/12/05 my son shot this nice 19 inch spread 8pt. It was his first shot at a dear. My 12 year old son has shoot 3 spikes and I still have not shot one. We hunt a 1000 acre farm with nice open fields, ponds and half the land is covered hardwood.
Question-- Would you move to a different area believing you have shot the dominent buck or would you hunt the same stand??? Some say by this time that the bucks aren't as territorial. I knoticed this buck still had scraping in his antlers. We are rookies so any help would be appreciated. We hunt on the NC-VA stateline.

Wow, that is a very nice deer, what a first one, gunna have a hard time topping that one, atleast he's got a ways to go...
In the region I hunt the deer aren't territorial ever really... Their territory is the territory of the particular doe they are courting at the time... they'll hang around a few days at a time maybe but they're usually never following consistant patterns here...
Move around a bit, get out there and hunt 'em...
Nice deer...

in my opinion, if you do shoot the dominate buck within a certain area...another one will take it's place for that area. my friend had his trail camera set up on a scrape this year. he captured 19 different bucks working the same area/scrape.
