Default Scope & Ammo Help

I recently bought a Remmington 700 ADL 30-06 for Christmas now I need a scope. Can I get a good scope for under $150? I know some say you get what you pay for but I can't afford to spend $300-$500 on a scope.
Also what Ammo would you recommend, I hunt in Texas and Arkansas. The deer are usually under 160 lbs.

Thanks

Although I prefer Leupolds...I have 2 buddies that have recently bought the Nikon ProStaff 3x9x40...I think they paid about $150...I sighted both in, they responded well, and both have killed deer with 15-20 minutes after sundown...They are happy with...

I would recommend the Federal Premuim 150 gr Sierra GameKing BTSP...

For 150 the Simmons Aetec would be my suggestion to look into. I don't own one but have a few buddies who do and they are pleased. For the money I think they are pretty hard to beat.

If you can swing 200 you have more options like the Bushnell 3200 Elite & Burris FF II, both offer good bangs for your buck. I have experience with both and no issues to report. Another in this range is the Nikon Buckmaster, which I have no experience with but have seen many who like it.

As far as bullets anything 150 -165gr will work just fine, just need to find what your rifle likes to chuck. I reload butin the pastfound Federal Premium and Hornady to be the most accurate for OTC ammo.

I recently boughta Weaver V3 for around $150. You can get a fixed for less. You can get larger objective (e.g. 38 mm) for just a little more than your budget.

I'm very happy with this scope compared to my Leupold VII and some others I compared it to. Clarity, brightness and overall appearance and operation are excellent for the price. Is it a Leupold? No, but it cost half and is nearly as good to my eye.

All this is not to toot Weaver's horn - there are other options at that price point. I chose Weaver because of the size and availability. Justpick your price point and go to a couple of stores and try a few fixed (e.g. 4x) and variable scopes in that price range... and pick the one that seems best to you. It will most likely serve you very well. It wont' be a Zeiss or such, If you compare side by side with the more expensive scopes you will undoubtedly see a real difference. But a good qualkty $150 scope will be a good value for the money, will last many, many years of tough use,and probably more than good enough for your hunting.

The Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 is a good scope for the money. I have seen them on sale for about $125.
For deer ammo, if your gun shoots them well, you would be hard pressed to find better than the good old, garden variety Remington Core-lokt 150 grain.
