Deer allowed per season??

Just wondering what the tag limits are per season in the different states?

In New Hampshire we have the following:

Muzzleloader - Oct 29th - Nov 8 - 1 Deer (1 Day for Doe) (Counts as Firearm tag)
FireArm Season is Nov 9th to Dec 5th - 1 Deer Allowed (only 2 days for Does)
Bow Season is Sept 15 - Dec 15 - 1 Deer (Any)

So if you Hunt both Bow and Firearm you can take a max of 2 deer.

Reason I ask is I see people with 4, 5, 6 kills per season and wonder how other states run the seasons.

Thanks!

RE: Deer allowed per season??

I think in NJ if you take advantage of all the seasons and permits, you can get in the 20's. I know you can get 2 with a bow, 2 extended bow, 2 winterbow, 2 blackpowder, 2 gun season (1 week buck season) and then there are zones where you can shoot lots of does during a permit shotgun season and I think also with a bow. I usually stop at 3 or 4 once the freezer is full so I don't know what the max is!

RE: Deer allowed per season??

Indiana allows one buck , and a variable number of does which depends on what county you're hunting in .

Example: My county , Harrison , has an antlerless bag limit of four , but since it's designated a "reduction county" after you take those four does you can get a coupon for a half price doe tag and keep hunting . Harrison's reduction doe limit is eight , four bonus antlerless and then four reduction tags at half price . Crawford county next door to Harrison only allows one bonus doe and is not a reduction county . Then there's the park reduction and military refuge hunts , which also don't count against the annual bag limit .

PA varies by zones.

Here we get one buck, regardless of weapon or season that we take it in. Then depending on zones you can get anywhere from 1 to unlimited doe tags. I had 5 doe tags this year, for 2 different zones.

NY

1 Buck during regular (firearms) season
2antlerless tags if you get them (its a lottery system)
You can have 2antlerless tags signed over to you from another hunter.
Bow/Muzzleloader 1 Antlerless tag and 1 either sex tag

Your buck tag for regular season can be use to take a doe in the late bow/muzzleloader season
Antlerless tags can be used during all seasons

Antlerless tags are only good for the specified area.

Ontario. . . . .
It really depends on the zone. . .
In my area we have a lottery for antlerless tags and if you don't get one you an antlered tag to use in bow or firearm season.
Where I hunted this year though the bow season is oct. 1st to nov. 6th, then it's shotgun season from nov. 7th-19th then bow season again from the 20th to dec. 4th then dec. 5th to 10th is muzzleloader. then bow season from the 11th to the 31st and your done.
You get one tag for every season here(antlerless that is) and you can buy bonus tags.

There's just a few points of contention I see with what you listed.

ORIGINAL: SPIKEHORN11

NY

1 Buck during regular (firearms) season
2 DMP antlerless tags if you get them (its a lottery system)
You can have 2 DMP antlerless tags signed over to you from another hunter.
Bow/Muzzleloader Special Season 1 Antlerless tag and 1 either sex tag if you buy both priveleges. If you only buy one or the other you only get 1 either sex tag.

Your buck tag for regular season can be use to take a doe or a buck in the late bow/muzzleloader season

from DEC website:

Q. Can I use my regular season deer carcass tag during the special seasons?

A. Your regular season deer carcass tag cannot be used in the early archery* or early muzzleloading seasons. It can only be used in the regular big game seasons in the Northern and Southern Zones to take a buck. It can also be used to take an antlered or antlerless deer in Westchester & Suffolk counties, in areas restricted to bowhunting only, and during the late seasons with the appropriate bow or muzzleloading privileges.

DMP Antlerless tags can be used during all seasons in the Southern Zone. Current year DMP tags cannot be used in the Northern Zone during early archery or early ML. Special season tags can only be used during the specified archery/ML season in either zone.

DMP Antlerless tags are only good for the specified WMU. Your special season antlerless tags are good statewide.
All in all, if you hunt with every implement available to you and recieve all the tags you can for one season, you'll tag out after 7 deer.

RE: Deer allowed per season??

Wisconsin:(Outside Eradication Zones)
Bow Season : 1 deer of either sex+1 Tzone (Antlerless only zone)plus as many antlerless if you purchase bonus tags for your area
Gun season : 1 buck (regular firearm tag)
hunters Choice tag 1 of either sex but fills regular tag.
As many bonus tags as you decide (Antlerless only)
1 Tzone (Antlerless only areas)

So heres the break down of what i go tthis year:
2 deer for bow 1 buck and 1 doe
2 deer for gun 1 buck and 1 doe
I still have a bonus tag and one tzone tag open. So I can get a total of 6 deer if i wanted.

RE: Deer allowed per season??

In Virginia it's split between east and west of the Blue Ridge. West of the Blue Ridge you can harvest 2 bucks and 3 does with regular tags. East of the Blue Ridge you can harvest 3 bucks and three does. But, you can purchase unlimited doe tags to use on private land. In certain counties the doe days are limited, so it depends on the county you hunt.

IL It depends on landowners tags. You can only kill two antlered bucks per year no matter what. I could be wrong, but If you keep buying bow tags I believe you can kill as many does as you can shoot.

in new York i believe its....
1 buck/doe bow,muzzel
1 buck gun
1 doe gun
and you have they options to sign up for 2 extra doe tags in a given zone
problem is know one reports to be honest. all the hunters i talk to say the pop. is lower than ever. they don't see nearly as many deer as they use to. i see a lot of deer IMO, but then again I've only been hunting for about two years now. every year more and more land is posted and public/open hunting ground becomes smaller and smaller:(i don't know, i think that the tags should be i buck, 2 doe per person total but I'm a conservationist and I'm sick of seeing less and less big, healthy bucks in the woods. not to mention the veteran hunters bit#h about how the DEC has not done a good job managing the deer pop. for the hunter who's average age now in new york (according to the local news) is now 49. i only hope things get better for us all in this state.

NY's the way it's listed above. This year I purchased the Super Sportsman Resident license and received two DMP tags. That gave me 1 regular season antlered tag, 2 DMP antlerless tags, and because it includes both bow and muzzleloader priveledges I get one antlerless tag and one either sex tag to use in those special seasons. That's 5 tags. And if I am lucky enough to have someone sign their DMP's over to me (limit two per hunter per season) that would give me two more antlerless tags, for a grand total of 7 deer legally tagged. And more meat than I could fit in my freezer. :)

Numbers do seem down though. Guess it all depends on where you hunt. I know of some groups having banner years, and others not seeing many deer at all.

RE: Deer allowed per season??

Here in Nebraska, we are allowed only 1 tag per bow, rifle and muzzleloader. I believe that only one of the deer can be bucks, but I could be a little off. I only concentrate on rifle season which is 1 tag that could either be buck only, doe only or either sex.

The way I read the regs here in OK, we can take a total of nine (four bucks and five doe) if you hunt all three seasons. That total also includes two special antlerless weekends after gun season closes during which only one doe may be taken. There are special requirements for different zones within the state, but I won't bore ya with those.

I will double ck my book on this and correct if needed.

In Delaware you can purchase at $10 pop unlimited number of doe only tags over and above allowed with reg tag. I have been using the $10 doe tags to thin a few doe in past 3 years.

Hey Doc Death.... Not sure what county you're from, but the limits for madison county where I'm from it is:
Bow - OCT 15 - JAN 31one buck and one doe a day or two does a day
ML - NOV 14 - 18 one buck and one doe a day or two does a day
Gun - NOV 19 - JAN7 one buck and one doe a day or two does a day
Gun - JAN 8 - JAN 31 one buck a day

So if you only bow hunt you could get a total of 218 deer

This is not exactly right. Don't take this wrong Okie807, just don't want you to take too many deer and get in some trouble. Total bag limit in OK is 6, 3 antlered and 3 nonantlered. If you partake in the special antlerless season in some zones you can take an additional doe for a total bag limit of 7. Doe days differ by zones. In the area I hunt, you can take a buck or doe any of the days durring all different seasons. You can take 2 deer with rifle, one buck and one doe, 2 with ML, one buck and one doe, and 2 with bow, 1 buck or 1 doe. If you do not hunt either rifle or ML you can take 4 with bow, 2 bucks and 2 doe. You can also take all 6 deer with a bow, but 2 will have to be checked in under another method of taking..ie gun or ML. Regarless of what weapons you uses the total number of deer that one hunter can take and if they partake in the special anterless weekend is a total of 7 deer, no more then 3 bucks. There are two specail antlerless weekends, but if you take one the first weekend, you cannot take another the second weekend.

Theres a lot of variability in NY but if I count right the max is 7 with a possibility of more if they don't issue the quantity they want to in your region. 5 must be doe, 1 must be a buck and 1 is an either/or.

2 buck in the same 12month period no matter how many or what type of tag u have but i think u can shoot as many doe as u can get tags for in hte archery season, cuase they are OTC. guns season u only can get 2 tags one either sex and one antlerless, unless u win one of the lotterys. or if you is a land owner than u get two free tags i think if u have so much land.

In Wi One buck with bow, and one with gun. If you hunt in SE WI in the CWD area you can shoot as many bucks as you can find til Jan 3rd. This area is about 30 counties. Shoot a buck reg. and get another buck tag.

North Texan 12-11-2005 05:35 PM

RE: Deer allowed per season??

The maximum in Texas is 5, with no more than three being bucks. In my county, the limit is three, one buck and two doe. I hate the one buck limit for one reason: shooting a spike to manage your herd counts as a buck. Thus, hunters in 1 buck counties don't shoot spikes.

I have read where this is going to change, and one buck counties will be operated similar to fishing with a slot limit, allowing for taking a spike and also a buck.
