Favorite Deer Caliber?
I was just wondering what everyones favorite deer caliber is. I have a 7mm mag now and i like it a lot, plenty of pop.
|
RE: Favorite Deer Caliber?
for deer I would have to say 270.
|
RE: Favorite Deer Caliber?
i use a 30-06 with 150 gr loads, and i have never had a deer take a step without being on its way to the ground...the farthest a deer has ever moved was when i shot a 6 point and it flopped all the way down the hill until i could get close enough for a follow up...but im looking into getting a 7mm wsm or a .223(for a little more added challenge)

RE: Favorite Deer Caliber?
i've never hunted with a rifle but being a vet i would probably start with the 308 just because bulk ammo is cheap and i LOOOVE to shoot:)

30-06 is my favorite deer cal.......
I use both 130gr.Barnes X for open country (SWITCHED FROM 150gr. NOSLER BALLISTIC TIPS) AND 165gr. SIERRA GAME KING.. |
RE: Favorite Deer Caliber?
There are 3 guns that I have used that dropped the deers in their tracks more than 3 times. 30 30 3006 and the 7mmRM.I would have to say that the 30 30 has killed more deer than all the newer calibers combined. The 30 30 I have gone back to it in a bolt action and don't need nothing more than that where I live and hunt. the 30 30 will allways be around and the ammo is still cheap.

I would say my .308 Winchester. However, my Dad just handed down his .30-.30 to me. That might take first.
