Whatta you guys think about the 243?
What do you guys think about the 243 with the remington corelokt 100 gr for deer? I shot one last year with it and it seemed to do the job. Any other choices you prefer?

I was looking into a .243 for my son. Then I heard about the 7mm-08. Both are based on the .308 cartridge, but the 7mm-08 seems to be the hands-down winner for me.
I'll be the first one to admit that I haven't actually shot one, but I would recommend anyone looking at buying a 243 consider a 7mm-08.

Imo, the .243 is a great beginner rifle or grown up rifle. The first
rifle I ever hunted with was Rem. .243 woodsmaster, semi auto.
The biggest deer i've taken to date was taken with that rifle.
i think at the time I was shooting a 90 grain nosler partition and the deer ran approx. 25-30 yards. My overall opinion of the .243 is: fast and flat...
If those two combonations don't work for you, nothing will. Also, I think Ruger firearms has a new youth Rifle chambered in .243.
good luck with your choice!

I also started out with a 243. I then moved up to something with a little more power a 270 and have never looked back. I believe it is one of the best for deer.

I did the same exact thing, used the .270 for 2 seasons and went back to the .243
