I hunt alot on the river, but always park in a slough or creek. I found a spot on the river that doesn't have a slough or creek to park in. I'm concerned about barges or yaught(sp?) throwing waves into the boat or throwing my boat up on the bank. Is there a certain way to park the boat to prevent something like this happening. I don't wan't to come back to the boat and find it full of water or 5 foot up on the bank.

There isn't much that you can do to keep a barge's wake out of your boat other than using a boat cover , the best you can do is stay well away from the lane they use , which is usually in the middle of the river . Watch for the channel bouys and keep well clear of them .

The river is about 200 yards accross, so the barges will be at least 75-100 yards away. Is this far enough to not throw waves in to the boat or throw the boat up on the bank?

I used to boat alot on the Columbia river in Portland Or. A deep water river with large ship traffic. The only way your gonna hold on during a 4 foot swell is to use a VERY heavy Anchor, a 20ft heavy chain after that then what is a big bungy cord in between that stuff and your boat. Then you will need to anchor nose out and up river and use a long stern line to figure out how to get the back of the boat to shore. I had a 21ft sport boat nearly beached one day when I failed to push it out when the first hints of the big waves show up.

Still risky. . . .Get your self some Deck bait and let here hold the fort while you are in the woods.
