RE: Selling racks

I know that some canadian provinces require the antlers to be sawed off of the skull-plate. Why? I have no idea.

If you keep the skull plate intact, you have to get a permit from the powers-that-be. I forget where I read that, but I did hear it somewhere.

RE: Selling racks

A buddy of mine sold a 135-140'' eight point oneday. He has several nice deer on his wall, but this would have been the most impressive. His wife wouldn't let him get it mounted. So when he was at the processor, he reached down to cut the rack off. The guy who owns the proscessor asked him what he was doing and he said that he was cutting it off. The guy offered him $100 for it. My buddy thought he was jokeing and told him alright. He then reached down to cut the rack off and the guy was like "hold on, what are you doing". Well, he was serious about it.

He gave my buddy $100 for the rack and cape. Got it mounted and it hangs in his processing place. Along with some other SC monsters that he and friends have killed.

That's too bad imo, I think it only gives a reason for poacher to keep on poachin'.

And whoever buys it is going to say what? that he bought it and look like an idiot?

why would you even buy a rack?

I have offers from canadians to sell thier 100's of pounds of sheds.Knife makers use them for custom knife handles and Asians make a powder of them as an Aphrodisiac.
100's ofpounds of sheds... I can believe a guy saying he found a couple sheds but seriously... 100's of pounds??? are you kidding?

I canunderstand how a knife maker or aAsian storeowner might have em in bulk but... i dont believe, no matter how much walking around in jan/feb you do every year, that you can end up with 100's of pounds of it.
The only possible way i can see for someone to obtain 100's of pounds of shed (legally) is by owning a deer farm. And I dont know many people that own deer farms.

I DIDNT THINK THE CANIDIANS COULD SELL ANY KIND OF RACK OUTSIDE OF CANADA ... I THOUGHT IS WAS AGENST THE LAW AND US CUSTOMS WOULD SEIZE THEM COMING ACROSS THE BORDER?

I can see where 100's of pounds can come from in a couple of years of shed hunting. I find around 75 sheds a year and there are guys that find a ton more than I do.

DD-here in Ontario I know that I am only alowed to bring back 2 sets of antlers per trip into the states. If I bring more, I am considered a collector and I have to pay duty on them.

Dan, don't forget Moose Shed hunters that have been
collecting them for 3 o4 years. How much does 50 moose
sheds weigh?

RE: Selling racks

Reb, good point, Iforgot about Moose. I usually find about 10 a year, mostly older. The fresh ones must weigh from 5-15 lbs. Heck, I have a deer shed that weighs 5 lbs. Adds up quick.

I bought a rack off of Ebay. A medium sized 8 point for ratttling. Many buy small racks to make knife handles etc.
