i actually took some core-lokt 130's to the range last tuesday and got pretty decent groups out of them at 100yard a little over 1 1/4" for a 3 shot group. so not too bad...

but will try to go back out to the range next tuesday and wednesday with some other brands and weights and see what it does now...in any case it's about dead onzero at 100yards with the core-lokt 130's

Before I switched to magnum calibres, I used a .270 or a .30-06, and in both I used Winchester Silvertips....THE ORIGINALS. The 270 I used 130 gr, and I never had a problem once with them...even punching through both shoulders. The original Winchester Silvertip is what you'd call a CONTROLLED EXPANSION bullet. The very few that didn't go all the way through, we found during butchering and they were perfect mushroom shape. This told me that we had very near to or 100% bullet retention, and for knockdown power....THAT is what you want.

For deer, at 150 yards, I don't think that it matters what bullet you shoot through your .270 Winchester...as long as it is between 130 and 150 grains. As far as picking out which particular brand and weight of bullet your rifle likes best, again, I don't think it matters too much on game as thin skinned as deer. Every factory soft point loaded in a .270 Winchester should perform just fine on deer. When considering accuracy, you would probably be hard pressed to find a factory load that wouldn't shoot at least a three inch group at 150 yards...and the last time I checked, if you are getting three inch groups at your maximum distance in the area where you are hunting, you will kill that deer every time provided you do your part as the shooter. In short, buy whatever is cheapest and as long as it shoots half way decent then that is what I would use.

Iv'e taken 40 or so with my Winchester model 70- 270 using the Winchester 150 grain. great combo, but I think any of the 130, 140, 150 grain are fine. Just don't gut shoot it, bearly leaves a hole so you will not get any sign. Watched a friend hit a gutshot by the deers humping up when hit and it was a lost cause.Have had a few bullets come appart and blow fragments back into the stomach on a good broadside chest shot, What a mess. I like the flat trejectory best, just put the X where you want the bullet to goand squeeze!!!
